We continued wood into the kitchen and have been really happy with it. The only thing to consider in the bathroom is whether the toilet tends to sweat. If it does, you'll get a discolored ring around it on the floor. Otherwise, I'd go for it in the bathroom, too.

If you are set against hardwood (which I like), you might look into pergo tiles. We had this in our kitchen before we remodeled (and put tile that is way too hard) and it was pretty forgiving, but definitely looked nicer than vinyl.
But is there a reason you don't want hardwood in your kitchen? My mom put wood in her kitchen and as long as you don't have puddles of water sitting around, she hasn't had a problem.
wood in both. it's a half bath. if anything in there leaks that badly, any floor will be f'ed/have to be taken up. otherwise, you shouldn't have much moisture in there. people are flushing and washing their hands only.

Our living room, dining room, kitchen and 1/2 bath are all bamboo. I'm not sure where a good transition point would have been. We've been really happy with the upkeep of it.
I would ruin wood floors in my kitchen within a week. I LOVE how it looks, I just think I'd kill them because I can't keep the tile floors clean to save my life.
If you are a freakishly neat person whose house looks like a model home at all times - go for it. But if you're clumsy enough that you're breaking stuff all the time, I'm guessing there's some splashing and slopping going on too.
