According to the letter from the GSA, the reorganization of the hotel’s management and organization structure and the creation of a revocable trust have satisfied the terms of the agreement.

“During his term in office, the President will not receive any distributions from the Trust that would have been generated from the hotel,” Terry wrote in the letter.

A spokesperson for the hotel thanked the GSA “for their diligent review of this matter.”

ETA: And of course he's giving all his profits voluntarily to the Treasury. Of course.

My knowledge of these isn't great, but why isn't it an irrevocable trust instead of revocable? Doesn't that mean he still has access to the money and the terms of the trust can be changed at any time?

In my job, we count assets to determine eligibility for VA pension - irrevocable trusts are not counted as net worth but revocable trusts are because they money is still accessible.

And the GSA said it's okay because he appointed leaders who, I'm just guessing here, rewrote the legal opinion of the career employees who were all "FUCK NO, THIS ISN'T LEGAL."

Ah, gotcha. So it was put in a trust to appease the people that don't know any better and assume it's all on the up and up - without realizing the money is still accessible and he's still benefitting. Fantastic.
