We’ve already seen that repealing Obamacare is politically perilous. Now there’s a new complication: It may also violate international law.

The United Nations has contacted the Trump administration as part of an investigation into whether repealing the Affordable Care Act without an adequate substitute for the millions who would lose health coverage would be a violation of several international conventions that bind the United States. It turns out that the notion that “health care is a right” is more than just a Democratic talking point.

But then what? Like the EU, the UN may crumble in our new fascist world because it's been supported all these decades by respect for international law, cooperation, and diplomacy. The GOP has long railed against the elitists in the UN and the Trump administration, like so many other things, has dialed that distrust up to 11.

The administration failed to distribute that letter to Congress, as asked. Trumpettes think the UN is a kangaroo court with no jurisdiction over domestic affairs. They don't even believe international law exists! The UN has no way to enforce this, especially against a nation like the US.

Sometimes I think we're so, so wrong to be insisting on law, order, procedure, standards, and custom. The Dems are arguing that we need to do things the way they have always been done and Trump clearly doesn't give a flying fig about about any of it. That's why we thought he'd never be elected - he won't release his taxes! He won't put his assets in a blind trust! We did the same with Bernie - he's not even a real Democrat! They all showed us.

I think the hope is to tie the Trump administration into a very long court battle until next election.

I also have to say fuck yeah UN! I think this is huge and very unprecedented. I truly hope there is a push that healthcare is a right. As much as we need food, water and shelter, we also have to right to life and to life healthy.

Yep I am betting this is to set up a long court battle to delay any repeal until Trump is out and hopefully it's no longer an issue.
