I run a collection (voluntary) and give a visa or similar gift card. Unless you know your teacher very well it is hard to get them a gift that means something to them.
If that isn't an option I'd consider small cards to places like Dunkin and maybe a letter of thanks.
I usually do a gift card, sometimes with some small cute item or gourmet chocolate bar or something. I will probably do that again. I just feel like it gets old, but really, what else would they want?
We don't have class gifts so it's up to us what we do. My mom says virtually nobody did end of year gifts when we were little.

This. I try to coordinate a larger joint gift and gift it at a time other parents are around (after concert, or something) or if there is a last day party. I usually throw in some flowers, too.

Not sure what you mean but we didn't have class parents in pre-k. I just emailed everyone telling them my desired to pool gifts. I'd get about 80% of the folks opt to join in and others do their own thing.

I'm not doing a thing. As room mom I coordinated the teacher appreciation gift. That was just a few weeks ago and I feel pretty done with gift giving.
In preschool, the last day of school was a week or 2 after TAW and usually most people just did a big end of the year gift and no one did TAW (maybe a few individuals and I know the director gave everyone something small, but nothing overall or by the PTO). In elementary school, however, 1. It's just a different ballgame, these teacher are with my kids almost 40 hours a week vs. 15 at preschool and 2. TAW is 6 weeks before the end of the year.
So I gave a small gift & note for TAW and I will give a gift at the end of the year. I don't think that's too much at all. In fact, it's not enough.

Our last day is next week! I plan on bringing DD's teacher lunch one more time but we gave gifts to 4 teachers for TAW. DD's two teachers, the Kinder specials teacher (each grade is given a specials teacher to celebrate), and the Kinder administration staff (same thing). They all derserved to be spoiled and were but it was a very expensive event. End of school year has to be lighter for budget reasons.
I'm the room parent so I'm coordinating for DS1's kinder class. Basically everyone is giving me $25-50 and I will get Amazon cards (75% for the teacher and 25% for the aide) as a gift from the class. For TAW we had lunch one day and flower bouquets and cards made by the kids on another day.
I didn't do anything for TAW...it doesn't seem super huge here. Except for preschool, for which a committee collected cash and did several things.
Ours is mostly done by the PTO and the funds they've raised and they focus on the kids writing notes for their teachers. So I guess if I had spent more on that it would be different.
I do gift cards and a little gift for teachers for Christmas and end of the year. End of the year is killing me. I always do something for their teachers, the school nurse (DS has allergies and asthma and a close relationship with her and she is amazing), the bus driver and the after care staff. Now I am trying to get Girl Scouts moms to pitch in for group gifts for the 2 leaders, and totally on the fence about dance and gymnastics teachers. It is so much! I wish parents would come together in general to give bigger gifts. Plus I am a teacher and always give gifts to my TAs. Feels like Christmas....
