I am going to London/Paris/Amsterdam in July. I need to buy some sturdy all-day walking shoes for this trip. Any recommendations? I have looked at Rick Steves' forums for this but mostly what I am seeing is sandals and boots. I need shoes. I don't really worry about "stylish" too much, just comfort.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I have a pair of Dr. Scholl's that I really like, but if you need arch support they wouldn't work. Sketchers are pretty good and I also have a pair of Keen Mary Jane's that I like.

Which ones (the Mary Janes)? My mom, who travels a lot, likes her Keens and has offered to buy a pair for me but I was willing to pay for my own if I got another brand.

My Olukai flip flops are my go to travel shoes. I've worn them all over India and I wear them whenever I go to Disneyland. There are a few different styles if you want something other than flip flops.

They're not the cutest, but the Ahnu Sugarpine Waterproof is nice. It's a lightweight hiker, so it's very supportive. It's also waterproof, which is nice in unpredictable travel weather.
I can't tell if you're joking or not, but I like it either way. 😉
Here in San Francisco, everyone is obsessed with Allbirds. They're supposed to be super comfortable.
As for me, I just wear my Converse during the day and pack Tieks for at night. Same thing I'd wear at home. (I do tons of walking here -- uphill, downhill -- other cities don't scare me!) For cooler weather trips, I wear boots or booties.

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't need hiking shoes -- or anything that resembles hiking shoes -- for walking around London, Paris, etc. They're just cities. And you'll immediately stand out as a tourist (I mean, we all do anyway, but no reason to go full fanny pack and large guidebook style.)

Dead serious. Prada shoes are comfy as hell. I have worn them all over the world .

I saw a few pairs marked down at the Nordstrom's half yearly sale. Thanks for the tip!

I don't want hiking shoes, I just want comfy walking shoes. I am a teacher who sits and wears Danskos (the ugliest ones ever!). I wear an 11 so buying at the store is in general out of the question, and I have to order from Zappos.
I do wear flip flops a lot (Reefs and/or Tevas), I wonder if I could get away with that.
(And I feel I will stick out anyway. My mom is such a fanny pack and guidebook type of lady and will be with me. And she travels alone allll the time. Israel 2x, Morocco, Greece, and Italy all in the last year. I will die of mortification but thankfully I won't see anyone I know!)
I just got back from 9 days in France and wore my Sperrys for most of the trip. They worked well for the different road terrain we were on. I was very happy with they way they held up.

I agree with the bolded. I love my Converse in UK/Europe and having my Tieks for quick slip ons is the perfect combo. I just wore my Chucks all over Edinburgh and had no issues.
I've never found any flip flops that are comfortable all day, so I prefer to go with the above options.

Also please note that July in London could be nice and warm (aka 70s/80s) or it could be raining and cold (50s) - yes, the weather here is unknowable and sucks at times. You do want something that covers your feet in that instance versus sandals or thongs.

I have some Skechers like these:
All day at Disneyworld and my feet didn't hurt! And they like nothing in your suitcase. My biggest tip for being on your feet day after day is to alternate shoes.
