Kind of a random question but thought I would see if anyone here had encountered this before I try contacting TSA.
We are headed to RMNP in July and flying. I really don't want to pack my expensive (to me) trekking poles in checked luggage. I am bringing my Camel Bak backpack (with no water in the bladder) as my personal item and can attach the shortened poles to the outside of it. Has anyone done that before with a carry-on? I am thinking it shouldn't be a big deal but also don't want to get to the airport and have them make me check them.
FWIW I would still be able to fit the pack with the poles under the seat in front of me on the plane.
I mentioned this in the other RMNP post, but something to consider, I find it a cool niche idea: If you want to rent any gear, a friend's family is part owner in this company: www.mountainsidegearrental.com/
