Good! I hope they already declined going to other schools and have to explain themseleves as to why they were dropped by Harvard when the grovel for a spot at a different school. Not so funny now!

Good for Harvard. I'd love to see the demographic info of the students with rescinded admission. The way they traded those memes with impunity before they even stepped on campus screams "white wealthy boy from New England" to me. They could be legacy, too, but I don't feel like Harvard would be so quick to rescind then.
The student in the article who said it was a freedom of speech issue made me ragey. Hey, snotty Harvard asshole- freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences!

I was just going to post the same thing. People seem to be getting the two confused!

I thought it was interesting that the article said that admission was revoked from students of different races, socioeconomic background and gender.
Also, now that Harvard is off the table- are they going to get in anywhere else? Presumably at this late date they've turned down all of their other acceptances, right? And I would fucking LOVE to read just one of the responses to the emai from Harvard asking them to explain themselves.
This is a life lesson to all these kids that think they already know so much and are so grown up. Sure, you are free to say what you want, but your school or the company you will eventually work for is just as free to fire you for saying or posting such things and wanting no affiliation with you.
This is the real, grown up world, Buttercup! I would like more schools to take a hard line, especially when it comes to crimes committed by students.

They can still attend schools with rolling admission, especially those who still have space. Never underestimate some colleges' willingness to take whatever tuition money they can get. lol

Sad but true. I seriously don't understand what people post on FB sometimes. Like people who post stories about what an asshole their husband is but then get offended when people agree with them. Makes no sense. They interviewed a woman whose job is to counsel young people on how to use social media responsibly. It's not that hard! Don't post that you're playing hooky from work and then be shocked when you're fired - this happened to an employee of one of our clients; this employee had attendance problems but nothing egregious. Until she called in sick one day then posted what she was doing on FB for all to see; she was terminated.
This morning I told my DD about this article and we had a little talk about being careful about what she posts online and protecting her digital reputation.
I turned to leave and literally didn't even make it to the doorway before I realized I had fucked up this life lesson.
I turned back around and said "Better yet, just don't be a racist, sexist or homophobic asshole and you'll have nothing to worry about."
She looked at me and said, "That's a better plan, mom."

I've wondered the same thing. Because I strongly suspect you're right and I strongly suspect this is the first time most of these kids have been handed any real consquences for their actions. I said this over on CEP but they are learning a HARD lesson that their shit does actually stink.

GOOD. I thought it was good when I thought they were doing it on their own pages, but then to find out they did it in a Harvard group? Dumbasses. Chucklefucks.
