She and Sheldon were due to be groomed at the end of April/beginning of May and because we moved right around then, we totally forgot. Then had to wait a month to get a grooming appointment by the time I got my shit together.
I told DH this morning that I thought she was getting fat. Nope. It's all fluff. Good thing it'll grow back? lolol
I love your dogs. That little row of bottom teeth is cracking me up for some reason. And her nose is to die for.
We've been calling her "Scar" lately. That light spot on her nose was some kind of abrasion. We don't know if she got punched in the face by another dog at doggy daycare or what, but it's definitely giving her character!

This is happening to our dog tomorrow. He looks the same, but black, with longer hair than your original picture. The doode is a hairy mess I have to brush twice daily, and he still has two mats I cannot get out. I cannot wait to pick up skinny dog. I love the teddy bear cut, but it doesn't work for summer, running around in the mountains.

Penny's mats were horrible on her neck and behind her ears and our groomer just recommended shaving her, or else she'd have huge bald spots on the back of her head.
As both she and Sheldon have gotten older, they've gotten curlier and their coats are harder to deal with. We definitely can't go more than 12 weeks between grooms.
How often do you brush them cbwm1? Brady is starting to mat around his neck and it's driving me nuts - even brushing, I can't seem to get them all. Im afraid he might have to get shaved next time too. I typically try to go every 6 weeks, but it's going to be more like 8 this time.

If you have a doodle, I highly recommend the wet brush (Amazon has them), same one I use on my long, very straight hair. Also, take their collar off for brushing. Ours has a mat on his ear and tail from running in the woods at our cabin, and getting pine sap on them, and I cannot get it out, but otherwise, he is good, even with pretty long hair. Bonus, he loves being brushed with the wet brush, and I can brush him in about 5 minutes, everywhere.

Sheldon we don't have to brush. He doesn't mat.
Penny is a different story and she is completely freaked out by the brush. She has been since she was a baby.

Just as long as you don't blame your groomer for the shaved haircut! So many people get doodles not realizing the brushing and grooming maintenance. If a dog comes in matted they are going to go home short and so many owners act devistated.

We would never, ever blame our groomer. We know 100% it's our fault for slacking on the grooming appointment! There were many a FB message with our groomer and the doggy daycare owner (where our groomer works from) to talk about options and what they recommended.
Doodles are definitely high maintenance, that's for sure. Sheldon's the exception to that, but we know now with Penny. This was only her 2nd? 3rd? haircut. She's getting curlier/more difficult as she gets older.
imojoebunny - I do have a doodle. I had a wide tooth comb, a fine tooth comb, and a wet brush (it's what I use on my hair too - although not the SAME one lol). Good tip on taking the collar off. That hadn't even occurred to me. I feel like the fine tooth comb is the best at 'fluffing' and getting the mats out, but takes forever. The wet brush goes through nicely, but I worry it doesn't get all the mats. My groomer recommended the wide tooth comb. He's what they consider an 'XL doodle' so he's a big boy and takes awhile. The groomer spends 3 hrs on him.
cbwm1 - I only ask because I worry I'm not brushing him enough, and wondered if her mats happened with brushing. Mine is def not a fan of brushing either, but he's manageable at least. She's still adorable with the cut, and will be low maintenance for awhile at least!!

Collar is a huge reason for matting, anything that causes friction, collar/clothing9usually more the smaller dogs) causes matting. And if the collar area/behind the ears are matted enough then the whole body has to go short or looks silly. Also water! Any time a dog gets wet, bathing, pool time, snow in the winter, a good brush out afterwards or the matting just gets tighter and tighter.
I think she looks adorable! Honestly, my sister does this with their dog in the summer months and I think it looks great.
I had a Persian cat, who no matter how you brushed or combed her, her hair would get matted. Finally, I just kept her hair trimmed lower, so not a complete lion cut, a bit longer, and she loved it. She seemed more comfortable, had fewer hair balls and was really adorable.
