And then he deleted it (along with another tweet about one of the Chapo Trap House guys coming on his show which made me )
So. Yeah. Kind of bummed to see Lovett react like that given it didn't seem like she was directing that thread at him or any of the CM guys. But I don't know much about Sarah Lerner or whether there is a backstory between them.
Would you mind posting what the tweets were? That link is blocked for me.
Sarah lerner did a thread exponding on this tweet: One of my least favorite Twitter genres is "white men try to act like neutral referees" when they're anything but that.
Lovett screenshotted her responses and said this: "Its important to avoid counterproductive arguments, now onto impunging people's motives in the most insulting way possible." @sarahlerner
@angryharpy , CTH is a terrible, brogressive podcast. They are a bunch of "muh nothing matters, but look at how edgy we are with our sardonic wit and nihilism" kinds of guys. Their subreddit regularly mocks Favs and CM (as the evil establishment) and one of their hosts is the dude who said that dems needed to "bend the knee" a few weeks ago. They also hide being their shitty opinions by saying that they are just a comedy podcast. Lovett made a joke about CTH a few weeks ago and I was so bummed out that he might be a fan. Here is an article about them: www.newyorker.com/culture/persons-of-interest/what-will-become-of-the-dirtbag-left
I absolutely agree with everything Lerner wrote in her tweet. It succinctly puts into words what I've been feeling and why I've been hesitant to give $$ to the DNC when they've sent multiple mailers since the Nov. election. I hate that they've embraced these assholes that attack women in office. There was a short interesting piece about the attacks on Kamala Harris: shareblue.com/kamala-harris-is-one-of-the-most-progressive-and-attacked-leaders-in-america/#.WYShJY7ONS4.twitter Spoiler alert: Harris is held to an impossible standard whereas her similarly-situated white male colleagues get a free pass...sound familiar?
This ties in with the Google manifesto. My H and I had a long conversation about it all yesterday (he is a white male software engineer for context). I told him that all of these bro feelings are a direct result of being told, for the first time ever in their lives, to shut up. It is a foreign concept and they don't know how to handle it. And because it's brand new they assume it's unique and they should be outraged over their rights being trampled on. Poor put-upon white dudes. He gave me some pablum about free speech and I asked him when speech has ever been free for most of us. For women, for POC, for those of lower SES. Welcome to the space the rest of us occupy. The difference is we expect it after a lifetime of conditioning and you don't. I think he saw some light. He has already long acknowledged that the tech industry is a Petri dish of sexism, racism, and misogyny so he wasn't about to side with the Googler on his actual stance.
Anyways, if Lovett wants to bee-bop down the CTH lane then I'm out. LIOLI is my least favorite of the CM podcasts so not a terrible loss.

The CTH crowd is really brutal to Favreau and Vietor on twitter and reddit, so i suspect that they put a stop to that talk once they caught wind of Lovett saying that. Lovett and his rants are/were my favorites so its really, really disappointing to see that he fell into the same track as many other white men. I am glad to see the the number of women who responded to that thread probably shamed him into deleting. I do wonder if he'll issue any kind of blowback or real apology on the show, but I hope it won't be the half assed jokey thing he did on the show Saturday about the baby boomers.

I followed the responses to that tweet in real time last night. I only saw it bc it was mentioned in a FB group I'm in related to Lerners podcast. The comment from Lovett didn't surprise me - SSDD from the pod save crew IMO - but I was glad to see the backlash blow up. While his "apology" falls short, I was surprised to see him at least say he was wrong.

I was very disappointed by that. I'd expect better from men whose job it is to point out the bigotry of the GOP, but to be honest I just kind of stopped expecting better from men at all.
Is this because on Saturday's LIOLI there was an impassioned and brilliant take down of the idea that democrats should accept anti choice Dems into the fold by Lovett's female guest and Lovett just said "let's spin the wheel again" when she was done?
I saw Lovett's tweet yesterday before he deleted it and was very disappointed. I understand he apologized by tweet but I'd love him too address it on the show this week.

Hmm, good question. At the time (Saturday morning when I listened), I took his "spin the wheel again" as a sort of "amazing! Can't top that and there's nothing more to add!" But, in light of his tweet Sunday you may be right.
Huh I thought this exchange started after he posted an article that said that Berners needed to stop bashing the top Dem candidates of color and both sides of the left needed to come together . Was I mistaken?
Because if the read is that it is offensive to say that. The. I have issues with her position.
I have no idea if Lovett reposted it or if there was a different article, but I think Sarah Lerner was referring to the one* that said both sides of the D party have equally valid concerns, and that the economic concerns of the Berners require as much sympathy as the racism and misogyny concerns of other Ds.

I'm not sure. TBH, Lovett usually segues from one segment to another in the spin the wheel segment just like that, so I didn't read anything into it, ubut who knows.

I did find his treatment of Cameron Esposito (whom I believe was the one who gave the passionate pro-choice speech) a little dismissive, but I didn't read a lot into it because I know sometimes things get edited out for brevity. Honestly I don't know what to make of most men anymore. Between this and an issue that went down with a polygon/vox media personality and the subsequent responses over the weekend (a shitty alleged ally was called out for doing shitty fuckboy things, and people wanted receipts, said the girls led him on, and immediately jumped into some #notallmen horseshit) I just feel uneasy about most male alleged allies anymore.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

Not sure who listened to PSA today, but Lovett sounded really pissy when they got on the subject of dem unity and it's pretty clear to me that he wasn't sorry at all and was mostly pissed that he was called out. Favs sort of touched on it in a roundabout way when he acknowledged that as 3 white guys, they don't have perspective about every issue. But really I was disappointed that he didn't acknowledge those tweets and comments in a constructive and not defensive way.

Yeah he seemed very defensive and like he had not wanted to talk about it at all. Not good.

I agree. I also wondered if "forgetting" to advertise LIOLI was a little bit intentional.

I think Tommy was the least obnoxious out of all of them, but I was really pissed at the tone of the discussion overall. Particularly Lovett, but I've never really gotten the Lovett-love tbh.

I usually like Lovett because I find him funny and he has a similar sense of humor as I do. But I'm not happy with his approach to this.
I think it's really clear Tommy is the smartest and most serious of the whole crew.

Maybe it's from spending time on this board, but I'm not understanding why he can't acknowledge that Sarah Lerner' perspective is valid and maybe just keep his mouth shut and reflect on it? I get that it's hard not to get defensive if he feels attacked, but come on. He's not going to be able to make jokes to get out of this. She didn't even tag him. Also, I just subscribed to her podcast.
