I know this board isn't as active, and I know people post and lurk on other boards like CEP where this horrific event is being discussed, but just in case people are lurking...
I learned that there is going to be a rally from the alt right here in Boston on Saturday at noon on the Common. I know there are a lot of local and semi local posters on this board. Please consider coming to the counter protest set to begin at 9am. Or spread the word so people you know can come. We can not allow Nazis to feel any more comfortable living their disgusting life out in the open.
My very small, rural town had a rally yesterday. I didn't hear about it until it was already over, so I wasn't able to attend, but I was happy to see people protesting hate. I've been following CEP, and the discussion thAts been going on.
I've been reading on CEP, I don't even know how to put into words the emotions I have.
How is this still happening? Where does all the hate come from? I'm from a small island province and while there is racism there (because it's everywhere) I've never experienced anything even close to this level of hatred. I just don't understand it. My heart is broken for everyone having to live in this world and be judged by their religion or skin colour.
Oh those mother fuckers. Where did you hear about it? I haven't seen anything yet... I'm out of town the next few weeks but I can make sure all my friends know to go.
devonpow-- there area bunch of articles about it in the Globe now. And FB pages about the counter protest. Look for a page called, "Shut down White Supremacists Rally in Boston."
I called the Mayor's office this morning. I know he's working on not allowing them to get a permit, but he may not be able to do that, so he is trying to stipulate that they can't carry anything and setting a timeframe. A cosplay group that was supposed to be gathering at the Common on Saturday removed their permit due to safety concerns.
It's terrifying and disgusting. And I'm scared. I hate these fuckers with every bone in my body.
The group has ignored the authorities attempts to communicate. The police chief is saying that he has asked them for their plans and what route they want to march and they have not responded. I imagine its because they feel they can protect themselves? I don't want to imagine in what ways they think they can do that. All groups that come, even controversial ones, inform the police so they can have some protection.
The mayor just said that if this group shows up, the police will be armed with riot gear to protect themselves and the counter protesters who they are calling a unity group.

I saw this posted on facebook and thought it was really powerful. Will copy paste
You know what worries me?
It's not that a group of racist idiots lit some tiki torches and decided to have a rally.
I worry that on Monday they'll go back to their job in human resources and decide who gets hired and who gets fired. They'll put their uniform back on and 'serve and protect.'They'll sit on a jury and decide the fate of a young person of color. They'll teach in a kindergarten class. They'll sit across from a couple, who came to this country, worked hard and saved, and have the power to approve or deny them a loan to purchase their first home. They'll decide an insurance claim. They'll give an estimate to repair the brakes on a mother's only mode of transportation to get to work each day. I don't stay up lamenting the fact that racists feel emboldened to parade in the street. I stay up because racists have, do, and will apply their racist beliefs in their daily lives and, by extension mine, and they don't do it carrying a banner to distinguish themselves.
It isn't the theoretical that worries me. It's the practical.

Ugh, I hadn't read the paper yet today, and I'm weirdly not seeing anything on Facebook. I leave Friday morning so can't go. I just texted a few friends who will be there, though.

His press conference today made me ill. He is legitimizing hate groups and making it cool to be a racist and antisemite. It is a scary time to be a Jew in this country or any other minority group.
