I took DS1 and DD a few years back - early December and had free dining. All in, $4300 CAD. Amazing last minute deal.
Tried to book something similar this year (except over Christmas break), and would be looking at $15,000 CAD for a family of five (DS2 is two, the others are teenagers). Airfare alone is over $7000, and that doesn't change, no matter what the dates are.

No vacation for me...
So that's like $12k USD...that seems insanely high. I'm not sure why you are finding stuff that high. Honestly, most of the prices here are causing me to . But we use a lot of miles & points for travel, rent DVC, etc.
.... the POR price for 2 days is giving me a bit of a pause
It was cheaper at the time than staying at the airport but now I'm second guessing it
What are the chances there is a 2 night DVC anywhere available last minute for October? I thought I asked this before and the answer was none but can't remember anymore That makes more economical sense but probably a long shot
Well, I'll share so everyone can feel better because I seem to be on the higher end. Family of 5, one priced as an adult as my kids are older.
7 nights at YC with park hoppers $6500 Flights $1200 Food budgeted about $2,000 Other costs - hotel at airport $300 Souvenirs etc - $500??? We are not souvenir people but just budgeting in some extra money as I'm not sure on. Food etc
Ugh, don't tell my husband, over $10k!!! This better be worth it, I know we could have done it for less but have always stayed off property and really wanted to try an upscale on property walking distance to things.

It is insanely high - it's skyrocketed since our last trip.
It is a full day of air travel to get there for me, and airfare is literally half the cost. I live in northern Canada, but close to an airport. It costs me $1000 just to get to the other side of my province by air (or a 2-3 day drive).
I've priced both on site, and off, and haven't yet been able to get it under $12k. That's too much. I have serious envy of anyone who can get on a plane for anything less than a grand.

thats insane! must be because its Christmas time?
I wish. Regular price for airfare, all year round for me.
Last year, a local carried put on a summer seat sale (as in, you could go anywhere in the province for ~$100 one way) and people went crazy! More stay-cations, more reunions, more happy people.
They didn't do it this year. My DD is visiting her dad, and her one-way ticket back here is $450. Same province.

5 nights in October at POFQ with park hoppers, memory maker and Halloween party tickets right around $3,000 (2 adults and 1 kid) not including our flights or food/souvenirs.

Do you have two rooms booked? Is that why it's $900?
Did you check for availability of family suites at Art of Animation or All Star Music?
1 room for 2 days I booked last room "apparently" and it was almost $4 a night plus tax Seems ridiculous now that I write it We planned to stay at airport and that was. MOre expensive when I looked
My trip was late May 2017. We booked a trip in March for 7 weeks later in May. FYI we got a little Disney Magic and got FP for Mine Train bc Disney extended the park hours from 9 pm to 11 pm after I booked so I was able to book FP during the fireworks show. Otherwise I know we would have not gotten to ride it and it was one of the highlights for me being DD's first rollercoaster. Her reactions were priceless.
Flight = $44 for the taxes on 4 RT on Southwest for a little over 11K points per flight
Hotel = $100 (mainly taxes and parking) for 5 nights at the Swan, 54K SPG points for a low season redemption for a resort view room, 2 Queen beds. They didn't charge us the approx. $30/night resort fee, we got lucky with that so saved $150 there.
Car Rental = $165. I can see how you could get away without a car especially with the ME airport ride but I liked having one because we had some non-park days.
Tickets = $800 for 2 day park tickets (not Hoppers)
Meals & Souvenirs = $1950 for 3 character meals and multiple other sit down meals for 4 nights/5 days. Quick serve meals were the minority otherwise this number could have been a lot less. Didn't buy too many souvenirs, maybe like $100.
Total = $3200 for 3 adults and 1 kid (3 yr old with a ticket) for 2 actual park days. The true cost is a little less than $3200 because I had about $1800 in gift cards I bought over the past 2 years at a 10 - 20% discount that we used towards about $2500 of the trip expenses payable with gift cards. I buy gift cards whenever I get various Amex promotions. I also bought 2 days of Memory Maker when I came home so that was another $100.
Given my health mishap from last year, we were sitting on piles of points and Disney gift cards that we couldn't use to pay real expenses. One of the few things I used to do during the last month of my hospital stay when I could use my phone a little was read the crazy Disney board and dream about taking DD there when I got better. I am so happy we could go, even if I melted in the late May weather.
We stayed five nights in sept 2016 at AoA family suite. Four day park hoppers, free dining. Family of five. $4312. Spent probably another 1k on extras like MM, stroller rentals, alcohol, etc. used points for flights.
After that stay we did a three night cruise on the Dream in the family balcony room $3224. Another $800 or so on extras and transportation to/from the port.
In feb this year I went with a friend. Four nights at Yacht club with park hoppers $2239 divided by 2. No dining plan. I think I spent around $300 on dining, etc which included a splurge brunch at cali grill.
Next time we go with the family we will rent dvc or stay offsite. And we would like to do a weeklong Disney cruise but it's not worth 7-9k to me at all. We'll do another cruise line.

We are going on a family trip Feb 2018. MIL and FIL are staying at Shades Of Green. SIL and her family are staying at PopCentury. Everyone is staying at different resorts since last family trip we wanted to kill each other lol.
This is just for 2 adults, H and I.
We are staying a week prior with the ILs so we are driving. They live about 1 1/2 from Disney. We are figuring $300 in gas to Florida and back to NY if gas prices stay about where they are.
We are staying at Bay Lake Towers for 5 nights. We lucked out with this. H's boss knows how much we are Disney lover so he booked it for us with his vacation club points. We aren't paying anything. I work for him too during the busy season so the running joke is I get paid in Disney points.
6 day park hopper: $991
Dining plan: $757
There are a few meals we are paying out of pocket for so we budgeted $250 for that.
2 birthday cakes delivered at dinner (1 for MIL, 1 for niece) $70
Characters at Flight in Disney Springs (3 adults, 13 y.o niece will be with us) $60
We budgeted $700 for shopping in Disney Springs, souvenirs and anything else our 2 nieces sucker us into buying them.
H and I plan on Drinking Around the World in Epcot. We are going to share most of the drinks so we budgeted $150 for that.
I have a deposit down on a timeshare rental at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for 4/14/18 - 4/21/18. Two bedroom villa for 7 nights for $859. A full size rental car for the week should run about $150. I'd rather stay off-site and be able to travel more with the savings.
Who did you book through? I am interested in a 3 BR suite for December 2018 (the first week). We were going to stay off Disney and that still is an option, but after looking at this it might fit our needs better. Family of 7 - older DD and her BF will be going so I like the idea of things to do right there as if we stay off property, they would have to borrow our car to go out to eat if they want, etc.

We are hoping to stay 7 - 10 days
While technically on Disney property, WBC is not a Disney hotel nor has Disney transportion. I think they still have shuttles for a fee but I hear their schedule is not too frequent. You definitely need a car IMO. There's a few poolside restaurants but nothing very good. We also booked through vacation strategy.
My next stay is a little strange, and not the norm. 3 adults, 1 child in Early September
6 nights AKL Kidani, 2 bedroom lock-off villa, savanna view - 236 points 5 day park hopper passes for 3 adults and 1 child- $870 (Two of the adult park hopper tickets were complimentary from Disney, as a result as a trip from hell a few years ago.) Dining Plan: 1,300ish Victoria and Alberts: 750+ gratuity Lilo's Club House: $55 Flights: Free, using southwest points.
We will of course spend some at the F & W, and of course additional drinks.
So I think we'll be around 4k total OOP expenses, when all is said and done.

We will have one vehicle available. I get that it is "off" property. I meant more that it has offerings of a resort rather than a townhouse or such that I would rent from Villa Direct. My DD (22 at the time) can go and have a dinner out or away from the younger kids without taking the car if needed. She would be more than welcome to take the car but if we have options, why not. With 7 of us, and a severe food allergy that limits what we can do - a kitchen is really a necessity. (I don't mean that Disney doesn't accommodate but the food plan for 7 people is limited and exhausting for me, I would rather cook and pack. I worry about one mistake, which could mean a severe anaphyaxlic (sp?) reaction and serious health consequences including death, dramatic I know but it is serious). I am also so unwilling to share a room with kids for a 5 - 10 day vacation. I am open to what we can do, but with the amount - I don't want to spend $5K on a room only when we still have the tickets and the christmas party tickets, etc. An off property villa for the same time is a bit cheaper (about $1K - $1200). Plus washer and dryer - who doesn't love that??

No, it's a great place to stay! We loved it. I just didn't want you to think it was like staying on property
Disney is supposed to be amazing with allergies though.

They are - we were there about 4 years ago. I honestly would just rather be in charge of most of the meals from a not only money wise but peace of mind. We do eat lunch there occasionally or a snack, but for the most part, we pack and eat before and after. Her allergies are tree nuts and shellfish. But if anything is prepared in that facility, she can't have (so think even bread or breading of fried foods, etc. It really has to be whole foods that they can clean the grill for her - such as a chicken breast or baked potato in the microwave.) The cross contamination sensitivity has increased the last five years - with every cross exposure. It's nerve wracking and worth the effort to know she is safe.
What date? When I booked Nov 18-22 it was supposedly all sold out but had no issues getting the two rooms for us.
!!! 10/12-14
You would be a budget saver (Assuming I don't win powerball tonight - but I plan to win
Have you looked at CSR? I was very pro POR and then I started to do research on Coronado. It is a bit cheaper, but also has more amenities. I follow a couple facebook groups on the resort and it seems to be a diamond in the rough type place. Really nice QS, pool etc.
