I'm feeling salty about the library's summer reading program prize. It's a coupon book, and at least half of the coupons require families to spend money to use a coupon. One free round of mini golf with the purchase of one, $1 off a minimum $5 frozen yogurt, etc. The worst offender we've found so far is a paint your own pottery place, $3.50 off. Our sitter called to find out how much it would be before she took the kids and was told $15-20. Turns out it's $15-20 for just the item, plus tax, plus a $7 studio fee. So really ~$30.
I get that these places participate as a way to bring in more business, but come on, these coupons need to be useable by the kids earning them. An extra $10 here, $5 there is fine for us, but I know that it's not for a big chunk of families in our county.
I could see that as bonus material slipped into the prize bag, but not as the actual prize! Ours was a book, which seems logical for a reading program! And the books were focused on diversity this year, which I thought was awesome. The other prize was a ticket to a free magic show at the library for kids who participated in the program.
I am enjoying dd SO much. She's 14 months now, and I just enjoy her more and more. I have to stop myself from constantly talking and bragging about her.
I'm struggling with feeding my kid right now. She's 12 months, still on high calorie formula, but we have to transition her to table food at some point in the next month. She's really picky about what she will eat and still has no teeth. The only things she's really into are bananas and Cheerios. Argh.

DD wanted to have her birthday party at a local bounce house place, which is great. But, then we realized that we'd need to have a separate family party. So now we're having 2 parties that day - heading to my ILs house after the kids' party to host family and friends without kids who don't need to be subjected to a bounce house place.
I'm doing so little, it's great. My parents volunteered to bring food for the family party, my ILs will buy drinks. I'm buying cupcakes from a local mom for the kids' party and an ice cream cake for family. DD is sort of pissed that we aren't doing a pinata, but I can't justify it for the 4 kids that will be at the family thing. I just need to half-ass some goody bags and buy some Wonder Woman/ Disney Princess/ Descendants plates. (She doesn't like to have one theme.)

Would she like the bananas and Cheerios with peanut butter or yogurt on them? My daughter would dip her Cheerios in yogurt for the longest time.

It's DD's second day of Kindergarten (first full day after a half-day yesterday) and the bus came extra early, so she missed it. It's no big deal because school is kind of on my way to work and I could drop her off without being late, but she was just sobbing about it. Yesterday she was so excited to ride and it went off without a hitch, so I think she was just crushed to have a change of plans. I hope she's doing better now - I'm sure she's going to be completely exhausted tonight.

Are you in Fairfax? We've just got our coupon books last week. My kids are dying to use one of the water park tickets, ugh.

She screams at yogurt lol. It offends her I guess. Good idea about PB though, I'll add that in!

Yes! DD and the friend we're sharing a nanny with for the summer have been working their way through the books for about a week and a half now, and they've already used most of what they're interested in. No waterpark requests yet, thank goodness.
bowies, maybe bits of cheese or shredded chicken, soft veggies like carrots and sweet potato? I was always surprised by how effectively mine could "chew" with their gums.
DS2 is acting out a lot. Like so much I told H we may need to get some family counseling to handle it. I'm not sure if this is normal or if part of it is attention seeking / reaction to DS1 having some special needs.
Meanwhile we had to pull DS1 early from summer camp as some kid was bullying him about his feeding tube. I am getting the story in bits and pieces but he simply refused to go for the past few weeks. Finally today I got a chunk of info and was able to piece it together. The camp refunded us for the last week he's missing but I wish he'd been comfortable coming to us sooner. I could have worked with the camp on it or pulled him/ enrolled him elsewhere sooner and saved a lot of tears.

That's awful! I will say that when I emailed the camp director about keeping DD away from the girl that was giving her a hard time, it wasn't a big deal at all. When I emailed again to let her know about a physical encounter at aftercare, she responded right away and said she would talk to everyone. I was pleased with the response and DD hasn't mentioned a problem since. (Just for future reference.)
