sudokufan My boys' DC did not notify parents of their plans regarding the eclipse at all, I asked the teachers this morning. Apparently they are keeping the kids inside, which is fine with me. I'll show the boys pictures or the live stream if they are interested.
The mailman gave DD his so she got to see the 2nd half. I got to call 911 for a domestic dispute that was going on with the apartments upstairs during the eclipse. Fun Fun

I'm enjoying my Me Day for my birthday. I've picked up groceries, shopped at Target with birthday money which is basically free money and bought all the things. Now I'm pumping, drinking a glass of wine and I'm about to work on a craft that I have been wanting to do for months.

H and I had some eclipse champagne, the girls enjoyed my "eclipse as demoed by playground balls", the clouds stayed away and DD1 was fascinated (though DD2 woke up from nap so we took turns pinning the glasses to her head).
campermom, I hope you feel better ASAP and I really hope it's not bronchitis! rere, I've been there with the adult friends. I often feel like I'm the only one making any effort to hang out with people. It is definitely hard, and frustrating. phdmomma, I'm keeping your DD in my thoughts. I really hope you get some answers and that she can start to feel better soon. erinshelley21 happy birthday!
My nanny was planning to just draw the blinds and keep the kids inside this afternoon. They'll probably both be napping around that time anyway. Someone in my office did have glasses so I got to go out and have a look! I think we only have like 67% totality here but it was still cool. I didn't think I really cared but I'm glad the opportunity presented itself.
DS is a HOT MESS. No naps at school is new. He's just crying and crying. The new sitter started today and probably also wants to cry. How much/when do you go out to help the nanny? DS is 5 and started kinder, so this is just big day overtiredness + giant goose egg to the head (resulting in visit to the nurse) during gym class.

Poor little guy
I have left work a couple times to go help but only when it's really bad, and if I don't have anything important on my calendar. Like the day my nanny texted me that she was losing her mind (and she's *such* a patient person in general). On that day, DS (2) was way overtired and wouldn't stop hitting DD (~6 mos), and DD wouldn't nap and was just crying and crying. I went home to nurse DD and put her down for a nap, then cuddled with DS for a while until he calmed down. After that I was able to WFH for the rest of the afternoon.
I also went on a day when DD was sick and hadn't slept well, and really just wanted me. If she hadn't been sick I might not have been as quick to go home but the mom guilt got to me and I felt I needed to be there for her more than I needed the nanny to just step up, if that makes sense.

We are on vacation this week so we saw the eclipse @90% coverage but it was disappointing. If i was at work, I wouldn't have bothered.
Also we are missing DD's preK orientation this week and she will start the Monday after we return. We don't know what teacher she will have or if she needs to bring anything. Type A me is bothered by this.
Celebration 90-95% of our stuff is unpacked at put away.
Vent DH broke a frame while hanging out new photo wall. The replacement will not arrive until after my entire family leaves so it wont be done for them to see.
Eclipse was fun! We're only 80% but about 10 ppl from my office went outside to a park. Someone had a handful of glasses we all shared. It was just fun to be out in the middle of the day with all of Philadelphia.
I took today off. The kids start school on Wednesday, and I really wanted them to experience the eclipse. I knew DH and MIL wouldn't do it. Or if they did, MIL would let the kids look with no glasses.
They really loved it. Plus, we went to Chick Fil A for lunch (just me and the kids), which was so much fun. And I made stuffed owls for the kids with my new sewing machine. I also got fabric to make new placemats since we go through so freaking many placemats around here.
Vent: DS pooped and didn't tell us. When I pulled his pants down to set him on the potty, poop fell out. He stepped in it and tracked it on the rug, so we are getting a new bathroom rug. Argh. I hate potty training!
xctsclrx , people are losing their damn minds over the eclipse. I loved watching it (we were in totality), but I'm glad it is over so people stop flipping out about glasses and whether their kids can go outside and be trusted to use the glasses, and moms mom-shaming each other on what they are allowing their kids to do or not to do. While we were in totality, it was completely overcast starting about 20 minutes before totality, so we didn't get to see it, but being in complete dark was pretty amazing.

I watched the eclipse outside of my office. We made the paper plate pinhole and lots of people were sharing glasses so we got a peek. Dc Is keeping kids inside and DS kindergarten is watching the live stream.
The weekend was nice but involved tons of laundry and unpacking as we got home last Monday night. We also discussed budgeting for dhs hobby and the breakout of our Christmas plan among our parents which are always fun discussions . . I ended up feeling like a bad person as I said 3-4 days with each set of parents (3 sets in 3 states) was too much. I'm a realist.
I have an upper respiratory infection. My fever is up to 103.4. I took my zpac this am when I got home. I also cried at the drs office bc I'm just feeling so awful and parenting while sick just sucks.
I kept DS2 up late so that when he went down, the big kids and I made a pinhole box and looked at the eclipse. I'm glad I did it bit I feel so tired. Then I slept while DS2 slept. The big kids have been watching tv all day.
DH is home now thank goodness and leaves tomorrow am. He's making me soup. I need to be functional by tomorrow.
I took yesterday off to watch the eclipse with the kids. We were at 99.5% so as close to totality as you can be without experiencing totality. I now wish we had driven north for it, but I didn't want to get stuck in traffic. Turns out it wasn't a problem. Oh well. It was still really cool. We had perfect blue sky weather. At 99.5% there was just the tiniest sliver of sun viewed through glasses. The temperature dropped and it looked like twilight. The lights in the park came on and some birds flying over head started this erratic pattern looking for a place to land. My husband was in totality and thinks it's one of the coolest things he's ever seen. So maybe in 2024 we'll have to head to some place with totality.
We had a really busy and fun last weekend before the start of school. Today I officially have a Kindergartner and a 2nd Grader. Crazy!
@leap - in 2024, totality will be less than an hour from us. In fact, that will apparently be the absolute best place to view it. I'm so excited! Plus my kids will be 10 and 12, so really a great age for it.
Thanks guys, last night was really f@&$ing hard. My fever was so high and I couldn't get it down. I can actually hear the crackling rattling sound when I lay down.
DH had to leave at 4 am. Today I realized his coworkers picked him up so now I have anxiety about getting worse and he wouldn't be able to get home. My mom said she would love to come take care of the kids but can't leave their business today. I had rescheduled DD's last swim lesson for today but managed to get DS1 to the dr for his follow up from bronchitis (he's good) and his pedi told me what to look for, for myself. Drink lots of fluids to keep the phlegm loose, take 10 deep breaths every hour, and sit up a lot. Then I needed to stop for cough medicine for him and milk. I'm laying down watching American Housewife, my fever is 100 but I'm feeling much better.
Earlier today I gave DS2 his birthday present early.
Do you have bronchitis too campermom. I just remember crying when I had brinchitis and normally not much for other illnesses plus the rattling sound is not good. Did you see your doc? Never mind I read you have a zpac.

I went yesterday and she said I have an upper respiratory infection. I'm on my second day of zpac. Along with DayQuil and ibuprofen, and at night I have cough syrup with codiene, but I don't know if I want to do that again tonight. My kids are great sleepers but I need to be functional without my H. Today DS's pedi said if my fever persists longer than Thursday to go back, and if I have chest pain.

Feel better, campermom! It's so hard to parent solo when you're really sick. Two years ago I came down with an upper respiratory infection while DH was gone for the weekend and my parents were also a thousand miles away (they live 45 minutes away so can often come to help when I ask) and it was so hard. I know garlic is a natural antibiotic - if you have any raw garlic you could chop into small pieces and swallow like a pill, maybe that would help too.
