The house down the street from us was bought and flipped. They re-listed yesterday for $100k more than they bought the house for. To be fair, they probably put in $30-40k in remodeling (finishing basement, cutting egress windows, new flooring throughout the house). If it goes for what it's listed, that means our house is worth a *lot* more than we paid for it. AND it means our taxes are probably going to go up again next year.
At the price point the house is at now, I'm really hoping it doesn't sell to be a rental.
My dad spends Tuesday nights with us to minimize his commute (he lives about 90 minutes from his work), and he just emailed me and said "did mom tell you we'll be at Linda's for dinner."
So, not at my house (fine in itself, annoying bc I made dinner last night for tonight, which I wouldn't have done, on my office days I usually just do something fast) and my mom is apparently also spending the night, and she's just so.....talkative. She'll come home at 8 from her friend's house and want to talk about home décor and renovations for two hours. I want to go to sleep! But that's okay in itself, I'm mostly just annoyed that they didn't say something beforehand, or say "Mom will be up on Tuesday as well with dog."

I harvested another 9 lbs of cucumbers last night. I have literally filled up an entire drawer in my fridge with cucumbers and there was no room for these in the drawer. Plus I have, uh, 6 of the quart-size mason jars of refrigerator pickles (4 dill and 2 sweet).
I really wish I didn't have a glass top stove so I could can these damn things instead.
I also made a batch of zucchini mini muffins. And then went out and picked another baseball bat sized zucchini. I told H we're making ratatouille this week.

Is the worry that you'll crack the stove top? You can always get a single burner thing for canning. Should be cheap this time of year cause of college students.

Yup, exactly. And, even if your cooktop is "cleared" for canning, you have to get a flat-bottomed canner instead of the normal ripple-edged one in order to get the correct heat distribution. Which means you have to have a special rack/insert for it so the water can get underneath the jars so THOSE don't shatter in the bath...
I had thought about the single burner. I may do that... I also thought about heading to my girlfriend's house and helping her out with her canning. She just had back surgery, so she's laid up.

The surprise party for my grandmother's 90th birthday was a huge success. She cried. My uncle didn't talk about politics, except at the end to mention that we didn't argue about politics and called Trump a creep. My mom's cousin's DH took my 93 year old grandfather for a ride in his plane, and he looks like a little kid on Christmas morning in the pictures.
My grandmother told my mom that she has the 4 prettiest granddaughters ever. It's really sweet, but she has 5 granddaughters. I'm not sure which of us didn't make the cut. LOL
2curlydogs , I'm jealous. Although our zucchini plants are huge and flowering, something keeps picking off all the flowers before I get a single one.
Mine are finally winding down. I've been bringing bags of produce in to work for co-workers.
I have one green bell pepper plant that has TWENTY FUCKING PEPPERS on it. And I have TWO OTHER PLANTS.
I think I whinge about my garden at this time every year. Possibly because of the confluence of harvest time kicking into high gear at the same time as my work gets stupid-busy and other life gets stupid busy. We've not had a full weekend at home in 3 weeks.

I live on the edge. Ripple bottom canning pot plus old glass top stove. If the water boils it boils - I'd need a diagram to understand why the ripple edges would affect heat transfer from the boiling water to the jars. I do have a rack in the bottom of my canning pot, but it's just a round cooling rack I snaked from my MIL. I'd use that regardless just to ensure proper water flow and avoid scorching the bottom of the jar contents. (no idea if that's a real danger, but if feelsl ike it could happen with a flat bottom pot)
I've also been known to water bath can small jars in just my normal soup pot. My monster stock pot would be another candidate...but it's so much heavier than my canning pot that it's just unwieldy when it's full.

Why does having a glass stove prevent you from canning?
eta: Oh, I see. Are you worried because of needing high heat or about the jars moving and hitting the stove? You could put a towel at the bottom of the pot, if it's the latter. I've done that before and it worked well.

I have this water bath electric canner from Ball. It is a little $$ but it goes on sale and cans really efficiently. I bought it because we don't have air conditioning and my house would get so hot when canning. This doesn't heat up the house and is the size of a regular canning pot. Apparently you can also use it as a hot beverage dispenser.
I'm laughing at all the "hold on to your eclipse glasses cause you can use them again!" advice online right now. Ain't no one going to remember where they put a pair of paper and cardboard glasses 7 years from now.

We almost didn't remember where we put them two weeks ago!
I've fielded ~5 questions about what I'm going to bring in for Halloween after I brought in the alien yesterday. I don't think that most people realize the seriously creepy stuff that I have. The alien is super tame and some people were creeped out by him.

You can use a large stock pot to can on a glass top stove. I do it all the time for pickles. Here's a link about it:

All of my squash plants got powdery mildew in the first month this year and shriveled up and died. I'm having tomato overload! I'll trade you tomatoes for zucchini.
I still have sauce left from last year's tomatoes...

wawa The concern with the glass top stove and the concave bottom on the canner isn't heat distribution, it's that the ripple bottom canners can actually cause the pot to suction to the stove top and create a seal. And then when you go to move the canner, if it is sealed to the stove top it can shatter the glass. I just use a stock pot.

oohhh. got it. Ok, not a concern for me then, since my loving husband dropped a 2x4 on my canning pot a long time ago so it's got a nice dent on the bottom. No nice flat continuous circles...
Also my glass stove top is all pitted around the heat elements. (from previous owners. it's like 15+ years old) I can't imagine anything sealing to that. Sometimes it works out to not have nice things!

I've discovered a doc who prescribes medical marijuana in our area. I'm considering contacting to help with my back pain and so I can get off the current pain medication I'm taking.

My IL's are those people. i bet you if they have eclipse glasses they're being carefully labeled and filed away and they will be able to pull them right back out in 7 years.
I've seen them do it with @ stuff they held onto from when H and his brother were babies.
