My mother and MIL/FIL both went on vacation last week and are just now getting back into town. They are both wanting to have DS over but H and I are reluctant because he is about to crawl and we both don't want to miss that. The grandparents aren't happy that they don't get to see him yet.

My baby boy turned 3 yesterday. It's so bittersweet, since he's my last baby. But he had fun, since I stayed home from work to take them out to breakfast (he had blueberry waffles and proceeded to call them cherries), went through the car wash (because that's SO fun when you're three), and to the playground to play for about an hour and a half. Then we went to Red Robin for singing and a treat.
DH also brought home a cake, so he blew out candles and opened his presents from us. All in all, a great birthday for a little guy. But now my baby is a big boy and I can't stop staring at all the newborn pictures of him. Ugh.
The pediatric cardiologist cleared DS yesterday - normal heart murmur, should resolve itself by age 7 or 8. Phew. Now I just need to get DD through her gauntlet of audiologist, ophthalmologist, and developmental pediatrician.
I had no sense of time during my c-section. During her check in on me today, my OB said that she massaged my uterus for an HOUR and that each squeeze sent blood gushing between my legs. Holy hell. I have cried a couple of times today just over how happy I am to be alive and to not have needed a hysterectomy.
babyharpy is nursing like a champ. We may have to supplement a bit because the trauma to my body might delay my milk coming in, but this doesn't bother me at all. H had to give her formula while I was in surgery, and it caused not problems with nursing. I'm producing colostrum like a boss, so hopefully it won't be long now.
H is currently rocking babyharpy and singing to her. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
Also, I hate to inform all of you that your children are inferior to my daughter, but it's true. babyharpy is absolutely perfect.
DD started K-4 at the elementary school today. She's gone to daycare/preschool since birth, but it seems to be hitting me hard today.
The like was for staring, not that you're sad.
@angryharpy I'm sorry you had such a traumatic delivery but glad everything else is going well. Welcome to mommy vision where your darling is the bestest in all the world.
MIL took DS1 (6yo) to the spy museum in DC yesterday. He's too young for it but whatever, she really wanted to do it. We asked him how he liked D.C. "Loved it. They have a great pizza place". My NY raised husband has clearly failed our kids.
DS2 continues to wear his old gym uniform daily so it looks like I never change his clothes. I give almost zero shits about it. Almost.

Sorry about the uterus massage @angryharpy , that sounds unpleasant. Breastfeeding is really good for that too. I am glad breastfeeding seems to be going well! Hopefully your milk comes in soon. I didn't even realize I started to produce milk, I had assumed it was still colostrum, the only reason I know was a little drop rolled out of his mouth when he passed out lol. I think because he nursed so much my boobs never got engorged?

Oh, I had no idea it was happening. I was pumped so full of drugs. The last thing I remember was my OB saying that they were going to try for about 15 more minutes before they would have to do a hysterectomy to save my life. I was having a tough time with the anesthesia - severe shivering and severe cramping in my neck and shoulders that was making it hard for me to hold my arms out like they needed - so the anesthesiologist had to give me ketamine to basically twilight me. I just had no idea how long anything was taking. It's so weird. I thought the whole procedure was like 30 minutes, but just that one part was an hour.
@angryharpy, one of my legs was up by my head when my ob was hand contracting my uterus. I asked her, "is that my leg?" She said, "now, honey, who else's leg would it be?"

Coopertown and 2curlydogs, I have one more year before my last baby goes to school, but it's such an emotional milestone.
@angryharpy, it's good to not always be self aware during some of the birth stuff - Still so glad you guys are both doing well and that you are healing.

My friend just got to the hospital with one of their 2 year olds to get IV antibiotics after a dog bite got infected. They are there with her for a couple days at least. She's not too into TV or movies yet, and is acting pretty normal for a toddler, so I wanted to help by dropping off some toys a toddler will play with and not lose too much interest. Here are some ideas...
play dough, sticker kits, water wow (those paint with water Melissa/Doug toys), doctor kit? What would you send to be used at the hospital?

Any tips on the possibility of saving a 3DS that got wet? I already took off the cover and dried the battery and SD card. He did it at camp and said he tried to turn in on after (ugh) so it's probably fried. I have it just sitting with the hope it dries out.

Is there anything worse than packing for a trip? I have to think of everything for myself plus two kids, deal with things for the cat, AND remember all the random beach crap. THE WORST EVER.

I've learned to just make a giant spreadsheet that I just pull up before every trip. Saves me from having to use actual brain power.
Oh, that is good. I make checklists on paper, but that would stop me from remaking them. I hate grabbing all the stuff together. I need magical powers
Saturday we were at a birthday party. My daughter hurt her finger, she says it was when she fell down some steps, but we think it was when she was on a bounce water slide thing.
She complained on and off and then Tuesday afternoon I noticed it was a tiny bit swollen so I called the nurse line and they said call the ortho.
We went today and her pinky finger was barely barely broken. So she's in a cast that covers her entire hand (minus thumb) its only for like 8 days, and I didn't think it would be a big deal, but Jesus she has one hand and a thumb.

My son lost a 3DS in a similar fashion. We gave it a couple of days to dry out and tried it. No dice.
On the plus side, you can sell them on eBay for parts, disclosing the water damage. I think we recouped @ $40 by selling it there. My son desperately wanted to replace it, so I agreed to pay half if he came up with the other half. He worked his tail off doing extra chores until he'd earned enough for his half.
We were going to send DD to a daycare in the town where MH works (and my mom and sis live there so they could help with pickup), but it'd be anywhere from a 40-90 minute drive each way depending on traffic. The reason was that the daycare was run by a family friend and was the most affordable we could find.
But we've been stressing about it for weeks because there's just no way MH would be able to deal if she winds up crying during the ride. And we'd rather not have her spend that much time in the car anyway.
We crunched the numbers again and we decided to send her to a center that's five minutes from our house. We will need to tighten the budget and cut way back on fun money, but it'll be worth the peace of mind. We both said we feel like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders.
Thanks, guys. I have all kinds of mushy thoughts, but I'll share them another day. I'm about to get another dose of oxycodone, so I need to work on winding down for the night. I get super emotional on narcotics, so best not to start the weepy nonsensical posting right now.

I wouldn't send play dough from the space it takes and potential mess, but stickers, water activities, and plastic toy animals would be my first thought. Stacking cups?

He takes really good care of the new 3DS.
So there is nowhere I could send it to pay to replace the motherboard? Ugh...I feel bad it happened but warned him about bringing it to camp and to put it in its case after he is done using it. Had it been in the case, it would have stayed dry.

You can send it in to Nintendo or to a repair shop in your city, but if I remember correctly, the cost was so high that we decided it would make more sense to just purchase a new one. Might be worth checking locally. Hope you have better luck than we did.
