We are taking possession of our new house on Monday!!! Wohoo!!
Our decorator just sent us her design concept for the main floor and I really love everything. I'm now super excited. But also a little anxious about the hit to our wallet.
DH's department just hired a new employee who is going to report directly to DH. As a result, he needs to be there to train her (right now he works in the head office only 5 days a month). She starts the first week of September, which means he may possibly miss DS's first day of kindergarten! I'd push for him to get this sorted out, but I don't actually know which day is DS's first day - I think the school does staggered entry, but haven't gotten any information. I've called/emailed the school, but they don't open till next week so no one has gotten back to me. URGHHH!
traveltheworld - what is staggered entry? It sounds stressful!
It's when they bring in the kindergarten class a few kids at a time (at 15 minute intervals) so that not all 20 - 25 kids show up at 8:30 on that first day. It's meant to alleviate stress for the kids/teacher. I know that some schools even spread it out over 2 days, that's why I'm not sure which time/day DS is supposed to go.

For the last 2 days I went home and exercised even though I didn't want to. This is the first time in 2 or 3 months and I feel a lot better! It's a slow start to getting back to feeling better. I still need to get up the courage to make the counselor appointment.
traveltheworld, that sounds awful for parents and planning. Kindergarten here starts with two half days, but everyone shows up on the same day and time. Do you have any say in when your time or day would be?
traveltheworld, my husband has never been home for a first day of school. August is a really busy time for him. The girls and I take lots of pictures and then they tell him all about it that night. It will be fine if your husband has to miss it.
traveltheworld, DH and I are both missing DD's first day of JrK. Not quite K, but still the same feeling. I'm trying to remind myself that I barely remember any days from kinder, let alone the first day.

Had a work trip Mon-Thurs. Met my new boss. Nice enough. Probably not the right fit as my manager though. So, we'll see how that goes. He did take note that I only have 1 day of PTO left for the year (was on maternity leave Jan-Mar), and said that he's a huge proponent of comp time. So if I ever have a crazy week, he's cool with me taking off a day to make up for it, without burning PTO. I almost kissed him.
3 days and 20 hours until DS's surgery. 12 days and 20 hours until DD's. Who's counting?!?!
Speaking of the first day of JrK - DD is spending the night with one of her friends from DC, and they'll be dropping her off at JrK (same center, different area.)
Any ideas on what we can get for them as a thank you? I've already picked up a special toothbrush for DD's friend (they're obsessed with a certain franchise, and DD has a similar one and wanted her friend to have one too.) They are not drinkers, so wine is out.
traveltheworld - that's crazy! Especially as the schedule isn't out tons of time in advance. DS and his buddies also would have been a hot mess waiting for each other to arrive/waiting to go!
Twerk and additional thought - I just volunteered at Kinder lunch. It was super cute. But even kids waiting for their friends in the line were not sitting and not eating because they were focused on finding their friends. I was shocked at the range - some kids legit couldn't unzip their lunch boxes. Most were in the "can you please open my milk" range. DS needed zero help, so my worries about his sisters babying him and doing everything for him were unfounded. He did get ketchup on his own back though wtf.
I also got to see DD. I love her age sometimes. She's not too cool for me yet. I'll take the tween attitude as long as I get that unadulterated excitement to see me.

supertrooper1, it's amazing what a workout can do. Yesterday I was certain I could go to bed at 4pm and sleep until 8 this morning, but pushed through my workout anyway. Just 30 minutes of pilates gave me enough energy to get through solo parenting all evening and stay up until 10. It was an eye opener.

I WISH I had an update. I'm impatiently waiting to hear from my brother how his dinner with his BFF went last night. They were getting together to talk our offer through since my brother is on the fence about what he wants to do even though I spent all of last weekend talking myself back to his side of things. At this point I just want a decision to be made and I don't care what way we go. I'm mentally prepared to make buying or selling work.
Here's a funny one. Anyone remember my aunt with the farmhouse that DH and I loved so much that said she needed to offer up the house to her attorney because she expressed interest first over me even though I'm her niece? Well, she called yesterday... to let me know that she bought another house and wanted to see if DH and I were still interested. I said we might be depending on what she wants for it and she said she was still going to talk to the other lady first. This is the second time she has called me to basically tell me the same thing since our initial convo in June. I about told her to F off.
DD's school does 1/2 the K kids come on Tuesday and the other 1/2 come on Wednesday then they decide who will have which teacher and we do before school starts PTC Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. But we got to pick which day she went when we registered.

I know it's not a big deal if DH misses DS's first day. DS would not care. But I want DH to be there, for me. I'm not normally a sentimental person, but for whatever reason, I'm having an extremely hard time with DS going to kindergarten. You'd think that it wouldn't be a big deal since DS went to daycare at 9 months, then had pre-school for the past 2 years. But nope, every time I think about him going to kindergarten, I get teary-eyed. I'm getting teary-eyed typing this. It's ridiculous. I need to get a hold of myself.
And supertrooper1, I'm glad you did something that made you feel better!
We still don't know what made DD so sick, and what is still causing the inflammation in her joints. Test results are slowly trickling in, which have ruled out lyme's disease, rocky mountain spotted fever, and a few others. She seems mostly back to herself, but is still pretty sore. She's got low iron and high platelets, and an off the chart inflammation score. But she is doing well and is back at daycare. Pending nothing conclusive showing up, I have to take her for a set of blood draws on the Friday before labor day to see what the changes are in her results, and we will go from there. They also don't think cancer is likely based on some of the blood work. Which is good, at this point I would just like to know so that we can move forward. Also, my mom keeps texting me her random theories for the internet, like DD being allergic to her ear tubes, which does happen, but the ENT said that they look textbook.
Other than that, work is quiet. Which is the quiet before the storm of the semester starting.

Nothing huge going on in my life. DS had a much better first day this year. Last year he had to be dragged in crying which was heartbreaking to watch. This year, he lined up without even looking back (almost). I'm not even sad - it is such a relief.
My stepson is moving to AZ on Sunday. He's 23 and has quit college, quit community college and has been working as a mechanic/tech at a dealership. He wants to work on cars although I'm not sure how one does that without some education but that's another story. He's moving out there with a buddy who moved there a few years ago. I'm excited for him and hoping that he finds his way. I think he relies too much on the words of others - like quitting community college because the guys at work told him it was a waste - so I hope he figures things out for himself. I also don't think he realizes how much DS is going to miss him.
186momx - if they did that here I think there would be literal riots. People would bring their tutors and au pairs and try to position their child to get the preferred teacher. Despite the rule that parents cannot get their kids moved, every year some parents triumph. Last year a friend did this and she's silent about how and why. The principal wouldn't tell me. It's all so weird to me.
phdmomma could it be an allergy? I ask because I'm allergic to various bugs. Have been bitten a few times and my joint have all swollen to the point I can't bend my knees or elbows and I have to go on steroids. My inflammation is just at a discomfort level with mosquitoes.
The carpet installers come next week to replace all the carpet in our house (we closed a week ago, built in a subdivision so builder has 30 days post closing to fix) because come to find out the carpet pad wasn't installed properly and they cut the master bedroom and living room too short. This was only discovered when they came to fix a seam.
@justchcking73 the mechanics I run payroll for all go through an apprenticeship program as part of their training for the union. They make good money and have excellent benefits. Hopefully he's doing something like that.
First day of school yesterday was good. DS didn't want to talk much about it, but that's not unusual. When I asked him what his favorite thing was, he said playing with the deer, then he said that "the others" wouldn't let him play with those. But that he did get to play with them some. So I'm assuming there were too many kids at that center at some point? Lordy, I hate when they are just sorta kinda verbal.
DD came home with instructions to make flash cards of her sight words (a bunch of colors). DH made them last night without my prompting. DD did them over breakfast and absolutely rocked them. She's supposed to do those daily.

He was part of a union here, though I don't know if he was part of an apprenticeship or not. He doesn't have a job in AZ yet but it would be great if he could get into something like that. I'm all for on-the-job training but he doesn't think long-term (not that many 20 somethings do).

supertrooper1, so glad the exercise helped you feel better!
campermom, yay for being fever free and feeling better!
My update is today is the last day, on a regular basis, my kids will go to the in-home DCP they've gone to their whole lives (with the exception of going to preschool a few days the year before they started K). The kids wanted to go to before and after care at school, so we signed them up. It recently changed to only after care; now they will get on the bus at DS's friend's house, which is less than a mile from our house (and the parents aren't charging us!). Anyway, I've been kind of holding back tears all day, because DCP has become a good friend, and really almost like family. (We actually put her and her husband on our will as second-in-line (after my parents) for who our kids will go to if something happens to me and DH.) Thankfully, they will still get to go to DCP's house on snow days and over school breaks (and hopefully next summer), so they'll still get to be with her from time-to-time.
justcheckingin73, that's a good question, her inflammation levels (ESR) score were off the charts high. But she was super sick first, so the question right now is wether the inflammation is part of her being super sick or something else altogether. When you get the joint issues, is it localized or systemic? With DD it seems like its all of her joints, but she starts to feel better with some advil. Right now I feel like I am grasping at the fringes of what things could be?
