There is a cheerleading clinic tomorrow my kindergartener wants to attend. Considering there's likely to be some blowback from the hurricane that's supposed to hit Texas, I'm thinking it may get rained out.
Other than that, we have a low-key weekend of recovering from school starting this week. I'm so glad!
DD has a football "jamboree" tomorrow. I may attend some of it but def not all. She is hating football and so am I. These kids are in third grade but seem to already know how to play, and she just stinks. The coach hates her inattention (hello, ADHD!). And I hate the atmosphere. I was hoping "flag football" would be less...footballish...but it seems like they just don't play tackle this young. It's mostly jockish dad's who played in high school (I avoided those people like the plague in HS lol). DD and I were the only female people there at practice. No moms at all. No one but the coach spoke to me. Not that I wanted conversation. It was just so...testosterone rich.
My family reunion is a week from Sunday. We need to buy the paper plates, plasticware, cups, tablecloths, etc. Not sure if I will mess with decorations, but I intended to do a photo booth and that requires printing out props and gluing them to sticks. May not bother? Thoughts? Also we need some things like lawn toys. So shopping is in my future.

akafred the photo booth props sound like a fun project for you and your DD. I wonder if there is a kit you can buy at a party or craft store since photo booths are such a popular thing right now.

Tonight we're headed to our favorite neighbors house to have some adult beverages. Tomorrow, DH is going to take the kids out shopping so I'll probably do my grocery shopping then. DD has a bday party later in the day. Sunday is wide open which can be a good or bad thing. I'll either be productive and finish painting the trim and walls in our staircase/hallway or I'll do absolutely nothing.
Looking ahead, DH plans to go to his parents house over Labor Day weekend to help my FIL set up his deer stand (they're hunters) and the kids want to go. I have the option of staying here and I might take advantage of it. I love my in laws but if they're going to be focusing on hunting crap, I might as well get some quiet time.
I have hopes for a lovely weekend. Our boat plans are cancelled for tomorrow for which I am grateful. Really need to just chill after a week of constant running. Mom is harassing various members of the family to go Sunday, but no, we need a day at home. We need to get our runs in, get our chores done and enjoy the house we don't see much.
Saturday night we have a 40th bday party to attend. We should see a lot of old friends, so I am excited.
Random. Ds said some kid is picking at him. Obscene gestures, just a general delinquent. This is our first exposure to a large public school. I am waffling between give it time and see if he can handle it and busting up in there and unleashing the crazy with words like bullying, hostile environment, assault (I told ds if the kid even sneezed in his direction, I'm considering it assault ) Ds is like mom, dial it down, but I didn't come from a long line of crazy for no reason.
We have a wedding tonight and I'm actually leaving work around 1 for the ceremony. My in laws have the kids overnight and are keeping them Saturday as well so we can celebrate our anniversary sans kids. A last minute thing to keep them another day so I'm not sure what we're going to do but hopefully reconnect and have some fun.

I need to get through the weekend to get to my days off on Monday and Tuesday. OT tonight and maybe tomorrow. DH starts school Monday, so it will be nice to get into our routine again. But I'm sure he's going to be stressed this weekend. DS has a dentist appointment Monday. I'm nervous taking him by myself since the last one 2 years ago didn't go so well. But it was at a different dentist, so I'm hoping this one goes well.
Random: My work phone rang this morning and it was a 202 area code. That always makes me nervous because that is where HQ is. The guy at HQ asked what my location's SOP was for x process. Apparently my explanation satisfied him because he said, "well then, I guess we can take your location off of our list since you're already doing what we do in my office!" Sweet!
I get my baby back this weekend. At the same time spending some time with my parents and grandparents. DH has drill again this month.
Today was also six days in a row of working out. I am challenging myself to workout everyday for 30 days. Hopefully when I get to 30 days 90 will be a breeze.

I was going to work this morning between drop off and pick up but chose to stay home, workout, take a bath and shower. Sleeping in the recliner with DD is causing a cyst on my tailbone again so the bath was preventative. There is a wedding at MIL's tonight so I've got the kids this afternoon. I'm hoping to make this a regular thing though to make the most of this self employed life during the down times.
Tonight is the wedding. DH is working a special event tomorrow so the kids and I will pick up groceries and do lunch and shopping with my mom I think. DD needs more clothes in general and DS needs pants. And I would rather solo parent while running errands than just sitting at home trying to entertain since I'm doing that this afternoon.
Not sure what we will do Sunday. Probably church, food prep, laundry. Typical family stuff.

Tonight DH and I are going out to dinner with some friends.
Saturday morning DS has flag football, no plans in the afternoon (so, cleaning), and then we have friends (one couple and their 2 year old son) coming for pizza in the evening.
Sunday we have church and then maybe will go to a baseball game (the local minor league team) because the kids got free tickets for completing the summer reading program through the library.
Monday is the first day of school, so I also need to get backpacks ready, make sure the camera battery is charged, and make lunches on Sunday night.
rere, usually DH and I encourage the kids to try and handle it on their own at first (tell the kid to please stop the first time, then be more assertive the second time). If that doesn't work, then we've told them to go get a recess aide or teacher to help. If an adult isn't available, and they feel physically threatened, we've told them to do what they need to do to feel safe (e.g., shove the kid and run away). I told them I would be up in that school office defending them all day long and do whatever else I needed to do to make sure they feel safe at school. (Because I remember what it felt like to not always feel safe at my middle school and high school.)
rere, I'm not sure what kind of kid you have, but bullies respond to emotion. If he gets easily upset they will think it is funny and keep at it. If he can shake it off and not let other people realize it bothers him they usually get bored and will move on.
also what covergirl82,said. Having your parents come down or telling a teacher makes things worse. If they lay a hand on him let him defend himself. My older boys are small. They oldest is 15 and barely 5ft and not even 90 lbs. However, he knows how grapple and how to use pressure points to get out of holds. My DH was picked on a lot so he made sure his kids knew how to defend themselves.
Nothing to special this weekend, fingers crossed at least. It's unseasonable cold here, which is really nice, I love fall. Tomorrow is swim lessons and grocery shopping, we are pretty much out of food at the moment, and with having to start making the kids' lunches we need more than I am used to having around. Sunday is church, cleaning the house up, and I need to clean out the kids' closet, so that I can find their travel bags for going up north next week. DD and I are leaving next Friday after having some more blood drawn. DS has next week off, and DH took it off, because it is a crazy pants week for me with the semester starting, and they are heading up north on Wednesday.
This afternoon, my parents want to take all of the grandkids on one last outing before school starts for all of them on Monday. So we are going on a tour of the city in one of those duck boats. It is beautiful outside, so it should be fun. Tomorrow, I want to get a walk in and spend some time outside. Sunday, we are taking my parents to the airport. They promised brunch before they leave. At some point, I need to review and prep for the class that I am teaching at the local university. This is the 5th semester that I am doing this class, so I am pretty set, but I would like to update some of the lectures and get some emails out for guest speakers.
Then DD starts school on Monday. Where has the summer gone?
I started my day off by getting peed on. It hasn't happened since he was mere weeks old, but today I was so proud of myself for cleaning a poopy diaper before he managed to get his hands involved, he gave me the BIGGEST smile, and then suddenly I felt warm spots on my shirt and dripping down my legs. I screamed. He screamed. DD screamed when our screaming woke her up. It was not cool.
I'm also wearing my new/free Sperry's to work. I'm not sure I would have kept them if they weren't free, but as the day goes on, they're getting more and more comfy.
We have a work event for DH tomorrow that the whole family is invited to, Sunday we drop DD off for her first non-grandma/grandpa slumber party, and Monday at the ass crack of dawn we take DS to the hospital for his surgery.
Oh yeah, and we're telling DD about her surgery today. Ew.

We need to buy new furnishing for the new house, and West Elm has a giant one day sale on right now! We had a bunch of stuff we wanted to buy from West Elm and almost all of the items are included in the sale! So I just ordered them all have saved close to $1,500!! That just made my day.
Weekend will be mostly packing and enjoying the last bit of good weather.
We are going off the grid camping. Of course I have work to do so I will be writing on the drive up until my battery gives up. And of course it took us nearly four hours to pack and now DH is taking 40 minutes in the bathroom🙄

k3am, I must have missed it, but how did you get free Sperry's?! I recall that it took a few days/maybe a week for me to break mine in, but once they're broken in, they are super comfortable.
rere, I am going to post a spin off. Remind me DS' age? HS?
I ran 1.5 miles twice this week. Today was a 10:40 pace, which is way better than I was expecting. Running after walking the kids to school is awesome. But I feel like a tool running away from the school. Especially today because there was the weekly assembly. But ... I have seen assemblies before.
Tonight a friend rented a room at a local restaurant for a birthday party. DD finds out if she made the volleyball team in exactly one hour. Other DD has an abscess where her wound was (from when we floated the river) so we are going to urgent care. She's drama so I will need drinks after.
Tomorrow oldest has Biofeedback. Tomorrow night one of my best friends from HS turns 40 and they reserved a wine bar. He's the agnostic god father of my oldest. I need a good gift. He's a designer and amazing.
Sunday I'm sleeping in and going to family worship with DD that night. It's too late for the other kids.

I really, REALLY need to stay home this weekend.
I bought canning stuff and am going to attempt domesticity tomorrow morning by canning my garden tomatoes. I need to sort through my kids' closets, then go school clothes shopping. Poor DS only has 1 pair of pants. No idea what DD has. We also need to get all of their school supplies, which is hard being as they haven't even gotten their teacher assignments yet and therefore no class supply list yet either. I also need to plan and get our house ready for our annual Labor Day party. And I need to run 9 miles tomorrow morning too.
Instead, I'm going to my sister's house on Saturday for my niece's 6th birthday. The party isn't until Sunday, but they're just over 2 hours away and driving there and back in one day is a lot. So we'll go over Saturday afternoon so the kids can play with their cousins. They're beyond excited. Hopefully I'll be able to relax a little and not spend the entire time in a hot panic thinking about what I need to get done next week.

I ordered some on Zappos. I also have paribus linked to my email account (which I can't turn off, despite my lazy attempts), and it noted a price drop. Paribus emailed zappos on my behalf to get a credit for the $7, and instead of a credit for $7, they refunded the whole amount.
I don't know how, I don't know why, but I know I'm not complaining.

We have a date night tonight with no real plans. It's our first parents night out at DC. There's been some crazy stuff (good but weird and unexpected) going on in my personal life lately and it will be nice to have time to process it all.
DS's soccer season starts tomorrow and we have church and the end of summer BBQ tomorrow night. Sunday I hope to sleep in and I have to do some work this weekend.

Oh and ds has cried at before school care the past two days. He's been in school since he was three months old so the routine isn't new and he's seemingly liking kindergarten so idk what's with the waterworks in the morning. He says he's tired but refuses to sleep.
DD got sent home yesterday with a fever so I worked from home today while she watched umpteen million episodes of Paw Patrol.
Grocery shopping tomorrow. Friends coming over in the evening that we haven't seen in a couple weeks.
Sunday DD and I are going to one of those "wine and painting" places that's doing a kids session with her bestie and bestie's mom. I'm dorkily excited about it.

Is your name Mavis Wanczyk and did you win PowerBall? Hopefully it's almost as good and unexpected.

Not quite. But totally crazy. Short version.
My dad had prostate cancer a few years ago and surgery to remove it. He was told in early June that his cancer was back after a blood test. I went to Israel and prayed for him at the wailing wall and told him to expect a miracle. He had a bone scan 2 weeks ago. It was clean. Then he had blood work and his levels were suddenly all in the normal range. This week he had a soft tissue scan that also came back clean. The dr has now said there is no sign of cancer anywhere and they'll do blood work again in 3 months (regular cycle). It's such a relief and blessing and miracle.
Also some long past family history stuff from before I was born has come up and is seemingly having a happy ending and it's kinda a best case scenario. It's just really sweet and nice and unexpected. I know this is vague but I can't say more.
We're heading to a puppet theater today and then to a cookout at my brother in law's. Should be a fun, low key day, as long as DH gets home from work in time. Otherwise, I have to go solo, which is not ideal.
Tomorrow is the last minute "get ready for school" day. I'll finish going through clothes and packing up too small stuff so that everything is ready to go, wash a ton of laundry, and make sure we're ready with lunches packed and all that. DH goes back Monday, girls go back Tuesday.
And in the meantime, we frantically try to find someone to watch the kids on Monday. Apparently DH never lined that up all summer because I didn't explicitly ask him to. So as of right now, he goes back to work on Monday and I have no idea what to do with my kids for the day. I might be working from home and/or blowing a vacation day.
