It's awful and is apparently about Kanye. Which is predictable. ๐ I keep hoping that she will outgrow writing songs about people who have "been mean to her" at some point.

I fully admit I've found some of her stuff catchy. But she's built a career on playing off the whole "mean black man bothering the sweet innocent white girl and awww shucks she's so sweet she's not even going to be mad at the mean man she's gonna sing a sweet song!" thing.

I used to be a big fan, and somehow kept my head in the sand about a lot of her recent drama, but her new song is awful. I actually shut it off before I got through the first listen womp womp.
Shame on Katy Perry for continuing the 12 year old petty drama. "Oops my video 'leaked' the day TS's new song came out" tee hee, you're better than that Katy. Although her new album is also pretty terrible.

I generally like her. I agree some of her persona has been problematic (like the Kanye victim thing mentioned above) but I also think she's been a positive role model in a lot of other ways, especially recently with her testimony on the sexual harassment trial. She is generous with her fans and I think a lot of the things she gets criticism for are rooted in sexism. I also think she's a talented songwriter - I've often found her lyrics relatable and while her songs are not groundbreaking musically, they are usually easy to listen to and even catchy.
I am not sure I like this song though. It sounds to me like Arya Stark wrote it. And I always hate the idea "look what you made me do". I can't make you do anything, you choose your own behavior and how you react to things I say or do. I am not responsible for anyone's behavior but my own. Abusers say shit like that all the time so I have trouble being ok with it in any context.

I do find some of her songs catchy, but feel like she is fake AF. The constant crying and "I never expected to win this award!!!!!111" and ALWAYS playing the victim when she has mean girl tendencies. I could not care less about her feud with Katy Perry and they both need to STFU about it.
I found it catchy (although agree the "look what you made me do" bothers me. But it's the "I'm too sexy" by Right Said Fred and I always liked that one. So it makes sense.
I won't buy it but I also won't change the radio station

I'm a lukewarm fan of hers - some of her shit is catchy, other annoying. I heard enough of the song to be annoyed (repetitive lyrics are like nails on a chalkboard to me) , so I admit that I may not have the full context of it so....
But her whole look what you made me do - no honey - no one "made" you do anything. For someone who is all girlpower and shit - rise above and be better. Don't blame your actions on others.

I only like "welcome to new york" b/c it was on the Secret life of pets and I really like that movie. Her songs don't really do it for me otherwise. If I wanted to listen to whining, I'd make my kids eat vegetables.

I was thinking about the repeating lyrics. In general were songs always like this, or as a society we're getting lazier because a lot of pop songs are just the same 2 lines over.and.over again (I'm looking at you Maroon 5).

To be fair, she didn't exactly build her career on this particular strain of victimhood; she was winning a Grammy when he took over ffs. She didn't need Kanye to build her up, she just used his rant to prop her already successful career. They used each other.
I can separate her shitty music and pathetic white girl act from her willingness to wear that privilege on her sleeve in order to nail a pervert to the wall. She knew she would win because she's Taylor Swift, so I don't attribute any altruism to her actions, but I can appreciate the fact that she made sure it was publically clear that you can lose your job for grabbing ass, even if she just did it because she can.
