Damn Texas conservatives turned him even worse than when he was younger and living in Cali. But it's his wall so there's only so much I can say or do beyond remonstrating, calling him out or telling him to fuck off.
He posted this. Several family members Liked or Haha-ed it. I at first thought "what stupid advertisers. That *is* funny, advertising M/F for gender on a t-shirt about gender norms." Then I looked again and decided that they weren't wrong and it wasn't actually funny but uneducated." And this asshole was a college professor (history at UT Austin) so you'd think he'd welcome debate, discourse or education.

Me After laughing at the stupid mistake, I took a second look and thought "Whoops."
Sex is binary M/F. Gender is non-binary. The shirt options are based on the accepted Male and Female (sex) *cut* of shirt, not the gender of the person. Male t-shirts are generally heavier weight and wider cut, while female are thinner cut through the shoulder and torso and made of lighter-weight materials. While there may be more than two *genders* there are only the Male and Female *sex* options for the cut/style of shirt, which is what they were pointing out as funny in an ironic sort of way. So whoops for me (and the meme makers) and not for the advertisers after all.

Uncle You are right. You self-identify as a Party Pooper. And gender certainly is now considered fluid, so all those non-binary folks can identify with what ever gender or non-gender, or any combination, they choose, or even invent a new one. But many of us stubbornly continue to consider ourselves happily cisnormative. And we can laugh at a joke without guilt. Is your middle name "Buzzkill"? Like · Reply · 2 hrs Remove
Me Yup. I'm totally binary and gender normative and cisgender, etc. and all those other gender-identifying words, but I have friends and acquaintances and children of friends and acquaintances that identify otherwise. So on their behalf, I'll buzzkill on occasion. Especially that if looked at properly this isn't a joke at all. It's proper gender-identification in all the "liberal" norms that I tend to identify with. Kind of like making those other "jokes" that get around that aren't funny to those that are the butt of the jokes but not in a position to be pro-active and defensive.
There are some that "liked" this (including me initially) that I thought would have otherwise not done so had they looked at it from another angle. So I'll be the liberal buzzkill to point it out. Like · Reply · 33 mins Manage

This is where I'm tempted to respond with a Fuck Off. But his page, his rules, so all I can do is block or ignore or invite friends to barrage his page (which I won't do either, which is why I'm not sharing with my teacher friend who counsels LGBTQ kids in college, my FB friends and groups who are decidedly non-binary, etc.) Kiddo spent last year questioning and joined the PRIDE club in support and as a result. I don't want to block because nephews, babies, cousins, etc. So here I am, sharing what an asshole relative he's turned into. I always did like the aunt that married into the family much better. Same holds for his second wife too. I liked my other uncle better too. Yes, I have favorites. This one's an elitist asshole with self-doubt issues.
And I was just put on FB hiatus by my sister because a police officer (? Retired police officer, I guess?) commented to me (in a very long, argumentative post that I never bothered to finish reading) about how I was wrong when I responded "BS" to his "it is a learning experience for both the legal and medical communities" regarding the detained nurse and we've gone in circles before about stuff like that and I'm wrong and how many times have I ever had to test people for alcohol(?) and implied consent is standard and... My sister, by the way, is a nurse. And she posted the article and is absolutely outraged. He tried to "educate" us because law enforcement. She let my comment stand, deleted his (so I can't finish reading it but I wasn't going to respond anyway) and told us to both behave and we're on hiatus. lol. My liberal ass is really chafing their hides today. But at least I'm on my sister's side today.
And wambam - yup. The absolute worst. When you don't comment because you're all FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU! they think that you've actually "chilled" and they "won" rather than thinking you flew into an absolute rage and are ready to kick someone somewhere really, really tender.
