I spent all weekend trying to come up with a different job I could switch to. I'm currently in government program management, and would really like a job that has finite, well-defined tasks, pays at least 70% of my current salary, and requires minimal additional education for me.

So the board of supervisors voted to change the name of one of our local high schools named after a confederate solider. This was quite contentious and I guess the public voted to not change the name but the board overruled them. Then the board in their infinite wisdom decided to let the public vote AND come up with the new names. One of the 7 billion names to vote on was basically the same name as the HS, just only the last name instead of the full name. SO STUPID. One of the other names that people could vote for was "triggered snowflake" WHAT A MESS

Yeah, that whole process seemed... poorly managed.

That is one word for it. I don't get why they didn't just got for the name change. Then ask for public input. Then put like 4 ACCEPTABLE names up for a final vote. Then give information about a run off if they were close. Like I mean what if triggered snowflake won? So stupid

I laughed out loud today when NPR was sponsored by OPP bank. I think it was short for Opportunity or something bank, but I was like, "Where am I putting my money? In OPP?" Giggle, giggle, snort.

pixy0stix, I can't remember shit but did I tell you I changed the rules for activities at my job because I got tired of the entitled assholes I work with?

I finally got my hair cut and colored (it had been five months) and today am wearing it down instead of a ponytail. I'm also wearing a dress. A man I work with just came over laughing, saying he kept seeing me all day but until I talked didn't recognize me. Sigh. (He meant it in the nicest way someone can say something like that.)
Also, I am supposed to get to meet Cecile Richards tonight.

No you didn't tell me. What'd you change?
I am NOT accommodating all Shifts for every single event anymore. These motherfuckers are too entitled and ungrateful. I am going to make sure each shift gets a single event for the rest of the year. My last straw was when an Executive told me to buy the shift working lunch( because we had an important visitor and they were the ones who were responsible for making it go well) and the assholes who worked that night got all pissy because they didn't get Pizza and Wings as well.

No they did not get pissy because they didn't get food as well. People are so goddamn entitled. Special events are a privilege. You just watch how fast they disappear when people complain.

Oh. I have a board of directors dinner tomorrow. It's, like, 2 hours after my work technically ends. I really don't want to drive down to where we live, because then I'd just have to drive all the way back up PAST work to the north shore to this person's house.
I'm struggling with how to kill that time.
Also, it's at this super fancy-pants house on Lake Drive and I'm not sure what to wear. Part of me was thinking white linen pants, palm print top, nude heels... but last time I wore white linen pants to a dinner someone spilled red wine on them and it took ages to get it out.
Good news: after 3 weeks away hgot home last night
Bad news: not 15 minutes after he got in the door he got a text thanking him for 2 weeks hard work (They worked so hard they lost track of time lol) and not to unpack his bags because Maria
Good news: he's playing hookey today (with approval) and we're going to Disney just to unwind and be silly and eat good food (not at Disney. Anaheim has some great restaurants)
Came home from the night away to find that the fridge had been mysteriously set to off (which WTF. Why is that even a setting?). Had to ditch everything in the fridge and freezer. But at least the fridge isn't dead which was our first guess. Napping now and then grocery shopping.
Lolol. We ordered 2 ice coffees. Woman asked if we wanted cream. H said yes; I asked if they had skim. No, but they have almond. Do they have soy? No, but they did have non fat!
That's not the end of smdh.
Upon hearing this h said he'd switch to non fat.
We ended up with 2 overfillled coffees and a cup of milk

"What does the personnel policy say about..."
Me, "Stop. Nothing good ever comes from starting a sentence that way."
FWIW, he just wanted to know about school fundraisers and advertising them to the dept. LOL! (Answer: word of mouth and internal online bulletin board.)
Oh! I forgot to share the best story from today. A mom emailed me telling me that the reason her daughter missed the journal check and got a 0 is because she was absent that day.
Kid comes to class today and asks if she can use her mercy pass for the journal check. I say, weren't you absent that day? She says no! I just didn't have it.
So Mom emailed me and lied to me to get the daughter out of a zero, but neglected to tell her daughter that she also needed to lie. But somehow it's on teachers to build trusting relationships with parents.
Today I realized why I hate teaching: grading. Ugh. I HATE it.
A professor friend of mine used to say that he does his entire job for free except for the grading, which is what his salary is for. In other words, he needs the entire salary to make grading worthwhile to him. Seems reasonable.
