Japan slaughters dolphins by the thousands Sept-march and its allowed? Why these wild dolphins are then taken captive to live in captivity and die an early death? Why do not enough people care?
I don't believe in using Facebook to vent opinions like this, so I will just do it here. I don't need anyone to agree with me, would be nice, but I don't have any outlet to vent about this. It just makes me so angry. 100 are about to be slaughtered any minute now in Taijii.

So they're just killing them to kill them? Or are they subjecting them to cruel conditions & then killing them to eat them, like we do with cows & sheep & goats & chicken & fish?

Apparently they eat them...disregarding the extremely high mercury in them. Perhaps that's their punishment. sure there are other things to worry about, but I worry about right and wrong.
This is going to sound crass, but it's because there's many more important things to worry/ care about right now.
Like what?
The drought that's causing grocery prices to skyrocket, the global unrest after that parody you tube video, the ramifications of the upcoming election, unemployment....
If every person who isn't Japanese cared would it matter? What is your strategy for changing Japanese law and food preferences? They already buy off lots of poor countries votes in the whaling commission every year...so you'll have to give those countries gov'ts some cash to in order to secure their buy in in addition to changing the opinion of the Japanese themselves.
"Enough" people caring rarely does a lot of good for anyone unless the problem is one that can be solved by basically doing nothing.
i'll be honest, i prioritize people over animals. not that i'm heartless and don't care about animals suffering, but a person suffering will always rank higher for me. and that's where i focus my time and money. and as mx pointed out, simply caring isn't going to change a damn thing. i want to prioritize things where i can make a tangible difference.
Are you a vegetarian? Are there Hindus protesting our cow's being slaughtered so I (and maybe you?) can have a hamburger?
And why are you upset about dolphin over any other mammal? Heck, in Iceland they eat whale. As long as the dolphin meat is being consumed I can't really see being too upset about this. I'm more outraged about the elephants being poached for the ivory to be sold in China. But regardless I think it's "better" to focus your energies on human injustices.
Really don't care about the stupid video, not worried about the election since I dont think mitt can win, and unemployment isn't a problem in my industry... We have the opposite problem.
Well, I don't really care about a few thousand dolphins. So I guess we're even.

I bet dolphins are delicious. I wonder what wine it would pair with. Probably a red, right? Because it's a mammal? Or would it be white because it comes from the ocean?

Slow down there, mx. It's like you actually know what you're talking about and can think through this rationally. we can't have that here on the internets.

Despite everyone's snark here, I also am saddened by the dolphin slaughter in Japan. But as other posters have mentioned, I guess as long as the dolphins aren't endangered/protected/overfished/etc that it isn't that much different than livestock slaughter here. I mean it seems more barbaric, but slaughter houses are pretty barbaric too.
I will say I do think there is something different about dolphins. They are really really smart (their brain has more folds than human brains). They know how to use tools, they understand at least 60 different words, and they show self awareness. Heck, heck dolphins even give birth with a dolphin midwife that will help delivery the baby dolphin if the mom runs into trouble!
I guess it is their intelligence that makes it so upsetting to me.
Although in the grand scheme of things I think that the overfishing of the edible fish is a bigger "problem"
I hope the people who are up in arms over the manner in which dolphins are slaughtered are just as upset about the cruel ways we slaughter animals in this country.
15 million children starve to death every year. 21,000 kids under the age of 5 die every day from causes that are mostly preventable. 1,000 women die every day due to pregnancy related issues.
Just a few more important things that I would worry myself over...dolphins are cool I guess, but people die far more often (not just a few months out of the year) and these deaths are just as preventable.
