The bra band should be tight (like borderline uncomfortable) on the loosest set of hooks. The band, not the straps, should be what holds you up. If you are a 10/12, a 34 sounds right. I am a 14 or 16 and a 36.
ETA: when I was a solid 18, I thought I was a 40 or 42 and I was wayyyy off. When I went to a 38, the first few times I wore the correct size, I thought I was going to die bc of how tight the band was, but a) I looked better/thinner and b) everything had way better support.
I was told this too. I am uncomfortable right now and I can't wait to take my bra off later!!! I imagine a 36 would be too loose. I am hoping the lady didn't fuck up...

I don't think she fucked up. I got a fitted last weekend and measured to be a 30DDD. They didn't have anything I liked so I ended up only getting 1 bra to hold me over in a 32DD. I actually thought this band was more comfortable, like the 30 was too tight. She told me the same thing about how it should be a little too tight and I didn't really believe her. I've worn my new bra a few days this week and the band is already a lot looser. I now wish I had never gotten the 32 at all (although it does like 10x better then the other bras I was wearing).

Nice! I'm sure it will be worth the money.
I actually just got fitted for a bra today also! I didn't buy any yet (waiting on coupons and a sale), but I'm definitely splurging soon and hoping it makes a difference in comfort.
So I was told to put on the bra, and put two fingers on the outer edge of the bra with one hand, and to smooth out the boob with the other hand
Then you out 1 finger down your cleavage, each boob take that finger and move in along the cup to smooth out any bumps
Does that make sense? Lol

None whatsoever. lol. What does outer edge mean? Bras have tons of edges. Edge of the cup? Which edge - inner, outer, lower? Strap? Band? How do you smooth out a boob?
All I do is put it on (hooking in the back like a grownup), then do the "handful of boob" thing someone else mentioned (leaning over isn't unnecessary) and place it properly in the cup. The end.
I accidentally clicked on the dolphin thread thinking I was clicking on this one, and got very confused about how we went from bra fitting to dolphin slaughter.
Now do you understand how I can't hook a bra behind me? ;D
If I weren't so modest, I'd make a YouTube of myself completing this very simple task.
Seriously.
There's got to be one on line, I would think.
It's really so very simple. To the people who can't do it - what happens when you try? Logic dictates that if you reach both hands behind your back, they'll meet. With one hand, feel for the other other part of the band and find the hook. Once you get the first hook, it's easy to get the other one (or two).

I physically can't reach my hands to the middle of my back at my bra line. I can reach quite a bit lower (different angle) but I'm vertically challenged there.

Carrots... Do you have Dillards in your area or Nordstrom Rack? Also check out Figleaves.com and bravissimo.com. You can find nice bras in our size that aren't $$$.
Both my mom and grandma have rotator cuff issues and can't do their bras at the back and have to do the front and twist. When I hurt my rotator cuff and was going to PT for it I couldn't do it at the back for a couple weeks because it hurt to bad.
the problem seems to be in raising my shoulders to my bra line. I can clasp my wrist or even clasp the beginning of my forearm if my arms are at a downward angle behind my back.
but when I try to raise my arms behind my back to my bra line, I fail.

Mostly I fumble around, and can't get the hooks to clasp. Or I get them to clasp to the wrong bit on the opposite side and have to unhook them and start over. By then I'm frustrated and annoyed because it's taken me four times as long as it would to just hook it and twist it.
Yes, this is the boob lift I do as well. But you'll note that at the ~55 second mark the narrator lady says if you can't hook it in the back behind you, that you can hook it in the front, twist it around, and then put on the shoulder straps.
Basically it boils down to this: - It's how I was taught to put on a bra by my mother. - It's easier/faster for me to do it this way. - There is nothing wrong with my method!
once upon a time, i grew boobs. tiny ones, but still boobs. i went to the mall with my mom. we tried on a few sizes and brands until we found ones that fit.
one day, i read one of many internets articles out there about how most women wear the wrong bra size. i followed the included instructions and measured myself. turns out since the boobs sprouted, i had been buying/wearing the correct size per my self-measuring.
one more recent day at nordstrom, i was minding my own business, picking out bras of the above size. an overeager sales associate insisted she measure me even though i told her i had been measured before and knew of my correct size. she measured me. again, i have been wearing the correct size all along.
I've been a hook-and-twist girl since all my bras started having a minimum of three rows of hooks. It's just faster & no possibility of mistakes like different hooks at different tightness points.
Big boobs are hard to wrangle Miso! Especially those without silicone or saline!
you guys are making me think I need to go and get fitted. Like really fitted and not just a quick measure at Victoria's Secret.
Please do.
Yes, please do. I went to VS and they told me I was a 34C. A few weeks later I was measured at Dillards.....I'm a 34G. I have no clue how they could be that many cup sizes off.
All off these big boob bras seem to be uncomfortable. I can actually feel the underwire on my ribcage and it bothers me. I usually unhook my bra as soon as I get in my car after work.
VS laughed at me when I told them my size. One of them asked if I wanted to be fitted and I said I don't fit in your bras and she didn't believe me. She measured me and brought me the largest bra she could find with a 36 band and couldn't believe when it didn't fit me.

I'm so happy for you!
Rack had 36 F not 34 F...if I go up to the 36 I can hit the Rack
True but check back. By its very nature the stuff at Rack changes frequently, they basically get last seasons stuff, overstock, etc. Ask when they get shipments in. Its hit ir miss but worth it if you score Nordstrom quailty for $20 each.
Quick update....it wasn't the band bothering me, the cup was too small. I am now in a 34 G. I got everything exchanged and even bought 1 additional bra...a lacey chantell. Now I feel a little better

Oh good! I love the Chantelle. It is the best bra I've ever worn.
