I'm at a work conference and might not be able to check in that much, but that's how I get to see her - she's the keynote speaker. I'm waiting in line now. The talk is at 9 and they recommended we get here by 7:30 for security. I got up at 5:15, took a Lyft at 6:30, and was here by 7. I'm through security and in line to get into the main room, which holds 10k people (half the number attending the conference).
DH was suppose to see her at a conference this week, but had to give his ticket to another employee. I'm guessing it's the same one. He was SO bummed that he was going to miss her.

Is this the one Roxane Gay is moderating? That popped up on my facebook feed a week or so ago, and I thought it was just an event and was incredibly disappointed that it was a conference. Have fun!

I don't think she's moderating (that would be AMAZING), But she is at the same conference. She's doing a book signing and interview later, but I couldn't get in.
I'm seeing Billie Jean King, Mario Batali, and Issa Rae today, though. And yes, there are also educational sessions, not just awesome speakers.

Enjoy!
Oh no! My agency actually has 8 people here, which is amazing. Most companies seem to send 1-2 people.
And yes. I'm in Boston, but I'll assume it's the same conference even without the added confirmation.

Well, that should work out well....
SO JEALOUS though!!!
They have overflow viewing rooms for the people who slept in. Not quite the same though.
I"m absolutely jealous. I get to see Hillary from across the room though in December so I'll take what I can get. In the meantime: SQUEEEEEE! So jealous!

DH goes to that one every year with 2-3 other people. It's his favorite. He's so bummed on multiple levels. I'm bummed too, he always brought home the coolest toys!
OMG Roxane Gay DID interview her and now I can die happy!
She was AMAZING.
A lot of her answers focused on really needing to be true to yourself and know who you are. That helped her a lot with the criticism, with defining her role as first lady, with being famous in general. She said her gets get stopped and asked for photos/interaction 20+ times a day when they are out, which is hard because they're teens and kids that age haven't necessarily developed their confidence and ability to know their authentic self. They talk a lot about how snapping at someone who bothers them for a photo might feel good momentarily, but will feel bad later. It's never a long-term positive. But it's hard.
She and Barack are both writing books, but she's working with a writer, so it's like therapy because she gets to talk about things she even forgot about and work through it.
She talked about women who are socialized to stay quiet and not interrupt while they listen to male relatives, classmates and co-workers drone on and on without worrying if they are even right or if anyone cares. 😂
She literally said that she thinks any woman who did not vote for Hillary Clinton do not know who they are. To look at Trump and think "that is what's best for me as a woman" means they only have internalized what others have told them. And that's not an issue with Hillary. It's about us as a country. My boss and I cheered for that so hard!
Roxane Gay asked her if it was hard to not comment about the Obama legacy bring dismantled and she was kind of awesome. You know, because she's Michelle Obama. She said Obamacare is up to americans. If they want to keep it, they can choose at the voting booth. And they want every president to be successful because they live in America and that makes America successful. Roxane Gay was like, "I don't know if I could be that gracious," lol.
One funny thing was that she said her kids are totally typical teenagers. She said "I love my kids, but they are REAL typical," lol. Like she's say, "do you want to meet Paul McCartney?" And they'd say, "uh, NO, mom." Like anything their parents think is cool is automatically not cool.
When people tell her their kids look up to her she thinks, "can they talk to my kids? Because my kids think I'm lame."
The night before the inauguration in January the girls wanted to have one last sleepover in the white House with their friends. She said she was shoving them out the door in the morning like, "no idea how you're going to get through the security perimeter, but good luck," and telling the girls, "come on, come on, the Trumps are coming, we gotta get out of here," which everyone CRACKED UP over. But she was trying not to cry because they lived in the white House longer than anywhere with their kids, and the girls grew up there. Malia told her the other day that she misses her bedroom. But Michelle knew if she was standing in the north portico to greet the Trumps with tears in her eyes people would assume it was for another reason. 😂
And Roxane Gay asked if she missed it and she said, "NO. Nope. Definitely not." 😛
GAH, she is amazing. Her answers on dismantling the Obama legacy. Tears. Actual tears. And yes, mine are because the Obamas are gone and the Trumps are in the White House.
