Has anyone ever done this? It's this thing where you pay someone for the privilege of going to a mystery location dressed in white to eat dinner, and you have to bring you own food, table, chairs, and place settings. Fun! (?)
I haven't but I thought about doing it this year. It looks like a lot of work! When I was considering it, I googled a lot of photos to see the types of things people wore/brought. It does look cool, I know people who have done and enjoyed it.
I've done it, very fun and now that we've done it once H and I know what to do next year.
- Don't super stress about how white your outfit is. When I read the rules it was so clear that it needed to be WHITE, not off-white, etc but I saw may different shades of white.
- Make sure to bring comfy shoes in case you have to walk far to the site. I did not do this and omg my feet. I picked up a cheap white pair of flip flops to wear to the site then will change into my dress shoes.
- Don't go nuts with the food and don't order if they offer meals onsite. We ordered and the meals were good but overpriced and one of the drinks spilled all over in the bag so everything was soggy. The people next to us had a great idea and brought lots of cheeses/bread/small bites that didn't have to be hot or have a chance to spill.
- I also bought a picnic backpack and put my plates/glasses/utensils in that. I bought good quality plastic plates and wine glasses so I didn't have to worry about breakage.
- Bring lots of wine! We only brought 2 bottles and ran out way too fast...lol.
Haha a few of my friends could not understand why we would pay to do this when we have to bring all our own shit.
It really is kinda dumb but it was an excuse for H and I to dress up and pretend to be all fancy and do something different than we would normally do. H still thinks it's pointless but he even admitted he had a good time.
Some people REALLY went all out though, like crazy decorated tables. I had to admire the creativity but it had to be a ton of work.

I did this a few years ago. We did not have to bring tables and chairs though, those (and I think the white tablecloths?) were provided. It was fun enough, but ultimately it was just a whole bunch of people having dressy potlucks with their friends.
This sounds like something done by people with more money than sense (no offense lol). Who are you paying and what are you paying for?
I have heard of people doing "pop up" restaurants and it is like a flash mob invite to an interesting location but yeah I am not paying to do all that work myself! Unless it buys me access to a really cool location or experience I wouldn't be able to get otherwise...does it do that?
I have a number of food friends who participate nearly every time.
But I'm like...why? LOL.
Well, I initially signed up because I was trying to wear my wedding dress at least two more times to get my money's worth. Unfortunately, I was only able to fit into my dress for one other occasion (opera season opener) before I got too fat for it.
I have a feeling the event will be at the Huntington Gardens this year, which would be really cool! But if I hate it, I can just call an uber to take me home. lol

A friend of mine does it every year. I thought it looked really cool, but once I learned what all it entailed, I was like hard pass. I do like to look at the pictures, though.

I don't understand this. Why would you pay someone else, only to have to provide your own food, table, utensils, etc.? You know you can wear white outfits to pretty much any restaurant and someone else will do the work for you, right?

I believe the organizers provide some sort of entertainment - music dancing, acrobats, etc. And the event is supposed to be held in an iconic location (in front the Louvre, Sydney Opera House, etc.). I think the first year in LA it was on via Rodeo and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills - I walked by with my dog by it and it looked fun.
It's kind of like a flash mob plus Diddy's White Party plus eating.
We understand, lol. This isn't some top secret event that only some people are privy to. Some of us just think this is just one more item on the stuff white people like list
I am literally responding to people who said they don't understand!
