After the story posted about by Agnes, someone suggested S-Town. I have one installment left and I'm hooked. What others are really good that you've listened to lately?
My D and I listened to the one from Agnes on the drive home from VA this weekend. It really helped pass the time!
I finished S-town while painting my bedroom last week. Shit was weird.
I think next I'm going to try some of the true crime ones recommended in the "Mystery" thread. I'm annoyed because I started listening to Agnes' and was really into it when it stopped playing in the middle of an episode and I can't get it to play again.

I've been listening to The Moth Radio Hour. It's people telling stories about their lives - some are really out there, some are a little more mundane, but it's fascinating to listen to. In a similar line, Kind World has been a good distraction from the news. It's a collection of people talking about a time when others have done something kind (and usually relatively minor) that literally changed their lives. The stories in Kind World are usually pretty brief (8-15 minutes).
Dirty John was suggested here and is pretty good so far. I'm only a few episodes in.
I'm doing Up and Vanished right now. It's good if you like the true crime/mystery genre but IMO it's missing that je ne sais quoi that Serial had. I'm having trouble getting through it and am tempted to just google to see what happened to her.

How many episodes in are you?
I cannot stand the dude who hosts it, but I can't say why without spoiling it.

I think I'm on 8, but I've spaced out a bit. I find him grating. Does he do something awful? I've been side-eyeing his foray into Tara's dating life and the insinuation that she somehow caused whatever happened to her bc she had so many guys on the side.
I just finished the first season of Accused, which is another unsolved mystery type. It looks like they are now rolling out Season Two so I'll be listening.
I also listen to Pod Save America (political), The Watch (pop culture), a lot of others from the Ringer (Bill Simmons podcast network), The Inner Circle (recaps of MTV's The Challenge lol), and some Fantasy Football stuff.
I finished Up and Vanished and was fascinated by the story but the host annoyed me. Same with Missing Richard Simmons.

Payne Lindsay is so annoying! Also trying to not spoil, but he is way too proud of himself and overestimates his contribution to the case.

OK, I won't say too much because you're not to the point yet where he gets over-the-top irritating, but I'll leave it at this: He is an egotistical asshole with a SUPER grating voice and cadence. And I totally agree with you re: the dating thing.

I quit listening to U&V back in April or May. It was after he claimed he was interviewing Ryan or Bo's (can't remember which) friend and that he asked for his voice to be changed. It was clearly Payne reading whatever the friend had said and he had just changed his own voice. People called him out on the FB page and he admitted it was him. It was so weird. Why not just read what the friend said in your own voice? He was obviously just trying to heighten the drama for the podcast and that was the last straw for me.
I'm loving all of these suggestions! I usually listen to stuff like Forensic Files when I'm doing things that don't require me to concentrate too much.
Thinking Sideways- each episode they take a mystery, I like it is contained. Watch What Crappens- Bravo Recaps Jillian Michaels has one I like, it's a little motivational, a little hot topics, with some workout advice/segments.
I started Up and Vanished, and was interested in the case, but found Payne Lindsay so awful. I know that it's all voyeuristic regardless, but his whole approach to the case-- "I was looking for a story that could make me as famous and successful as the people who did Serial, and found Tara!"-- rubbed me really wrong.
I gave up after a few episodes and just read the reddit thread.
For something a little lighter than true crime, I highly recommend "My Dad Wrote a Porno." It's awesome.

I really like More Perfect, which tells the stories behind Supreme Court decisions--some famous, some not. I don't think you need to be a lawyer to like it, although I could be wrong.

Ever since the unsolved mysteries thread, I've been listening to True Crime Garage. They have like 150 episodes and I've only listened to about 5, so I have a lot to go lol.

The Bright Sessions is a fantastic serial drama. Lately I'm listening to Welcome to Nightvale. I flew through Limetown. It really needs a second season.
