When do kids typically learn to spit out toothpaste? E just eats it so we've been sticking with the toddler stuff. Just curious when he might start to understand that concept!
Ds was 3 I think. It’s ok to use fluoride toothpaste, even if they swallow it. They’d have to swallow huge amounts everyday for it to be an issue!

That’s what we were told as well by our pedi and pedi dentist - DD has been using fluoride toothpaste (just a tiny bit - about a grain of rice) since before she was 1.

Yup! Our pediatric dentist said it was fine to skip right over the toddler toothpaste and recommended a rice sized amount on the brush.

Good to know about the fluoride toothpaste! I suppose as long as we don't put a huge glob on there he'd be fine. I'll have to pick up some new toothpaste when the current one is low! And see if I can get him to spit.. he's been making me brush his teeth lately (which is fine so we can get everything cleaner, but usually I was helping after he brushes for a bit). Thanks all!
Could a baby have an ear infection without a fever? My DD always had a high fever with hers, but my son has all the symptoms minus the fever. I feel like a FTM second guessing myself again.
My guess is it's possible because they want L in for an ear check. His symptoms are runny nose, crying hard and not wanting to nap unless on me or I give him Motrin. No fever. C was sick last week and it was mainly congestion and cough (still has both but seems SO much better). We have an appointment for tomorrow at 11 but I am still hesitant...he doesn't seem sick and Motrin totally helped him nap normal this afternoon. It's only been 48 hours...usually me taking them in is because they are showing symptoms much worse than this.
Is there a 2 year-ish sleep regression? DD is struggling hard with naps on the weekends (is fine at dc) and at night. She refuses to be rocked and hates being put in her crib, but she will happily fall asleep on the floor at night. We started letting her start there and then put her in the crib when we head to bed so she’s contained. Should we transition her crib to a toddler bed? We have the rail already.
C had a horrible regression at 2. It lasted awhile, maybe even a month. I just rode it out. I left him to play in his crib for 2 hours...some days he napped other days he didn't. He now naps 1-2 hours every day. Night time can take an hour to fall asleep but that's because I have him in bed early (7:30 at the latest, wakes from nap at 3). Hrs content and both DH and I get our down time.
Will your DD stay in her crib if there are books, toys, stuffed animals? The regression was rough but I am glad I waited it out and he is still happily in his crib. I fear the day this ends because he is so going to be coming out of his room a million times and waking up his brother (DS2 is right next door and we are a good ways down the hall away from them).

Do you have fluoride in your water? For some reason our city does not and we switched to fluoride toothpaste early per the pedi. Otherwise we have to give drops.

That’s a good idea - we haven’t tried to give her anything in her crib other than her livid and blanket. I’ll try some toys or books next weekend to see if that helps.

You know what, I'm not sure! I'll have to look that up!
I am sure I have missed this before, but I should start thinking about it - what seat do you use for the toilet when you start potty training? I'll also need a step stool since BB is petite. Any recommendations?
Has anyone had any experience with tracheomalachia with their babies?
We had the twins in for a checkup last week and one of them coughed and the Dr sounded concerned. He’s always had a gravelly sound when he breathes, and he has had a croupy sounding barking cough since birth. I’ve mentioned it a numerous times at their checkups and was told it was nothing because his lungs sound clear. I actually took him in about 6 weeks ago because I thought he may be sick and again I was told that he was fine. But now since she heard the cough she thinks otherwise. Funny enough - this can be related to the reflux which we’ve been struggling with lately too.
Dr is giving us a referral to an ENT at the children’s hospital. I know if he does in fact have it that there’s not much we can do, and that he’ll grow out of it, but that’s obviously it not helping my already high PPA.
Anyone have any experience with this? Or hair pats at least? ☹️

Thanks everyone. I took him in and he has a double ear infection. Hope L and C are better soon!

Thank you! Sorry G is sick 🙁 What are his symptoms? I cancelled his appointment for tomorrow...he napped fine with Motrin so will try to ride it out for another 1-2 days.
Thanks luv2rn4fun. His symptoms are lots of congestion, a chesty cough, refusal to lay flat, very loose stools, and waking up approximately one million times at night.
scm1011 We were getting nervous about the flu shot also so my H called and they said they haven't had any cases of flu yet so it's ok to wait for his 1 year appointment on 11/9.

So many ((hugs)). I hope he is feeling better soon. L had a normal night last night (3a wake up to eat). I cancelled his doctors appointment and will take him if the nap shenanigans continue today. At least I know he will sleep if he has Motrin.
Is it a terrible idea to wait until DS' 1 year appointment on 11/13 to get a flu shot?
DS has been taking steps with the walker/holding our hands for a couple weeks. He walks with his feet turned out like a ballet dancer in 1st position. My MIL is VERY concerned about this for some reason, where as I'm all "meh?". Is this something I should be concerned about?
Re: the walking, I asked a similar question at ds2’s 15 month appt. He was toddling then, but had a wide stance and often turned his feet out a bit. She watched him walk around the office and said it was totally normal. New walkers don’t have a good sense of balance yet and use that stance to feel more secure. As he gets stronger and better balanced, he should straighten out/up. Does he by chance have a big head? Ds2 is solidly 50-60% in height and weight, but a 90+% head. She said that makes the balance issue a bit more of a problem. Lol
Blue Moon - I’m sorry! Ds2 has a double EI right now and never had a fever. He’s had one other EI and never had a fever with that one either. Ds1 usually gets a fever when he has an EI, though. Hope the meds kick in soon.

YES! He's tiny (<10% for height and weight) but his melon is always ~50% lol. Good to know. The whole balance thing makes total sense to me.
