Is it a terrible idea to wait until DS' 1 year appointment on 11/13 to get a flu shot?
DS has been taking steps with the walker/holding our hands for a couple weeks. He walks with his feet turned out like a ballet dancer in 1st position. My MIL is VERY concerned about this for some reason, where as I'm all "meh?". Is this something I should be concerned about?
I don’t think so! Dd’s Bday is late May and I didn’t make a special appt for her last year. She got it at her 18 month checkup which was probably even later in November.
Also, you just reminded me that I need to get her a flu shot this year since she has no well visits coming up. I hadn’t even thought about it! Oops! 😳

The only thing is they need two, at least one month apart. DD had her first one in Sept but I’m waiting until her appointment (also on 11/13) for the second.
scm1011, I always wonder the same thing as my kids also have a Nov b-day. Our pedi office does a flu shot clinic in Oct so I've taken them then to get it.
For the walking I probably wouldn't be too concerned either as they are so wobbly and awkward when they are first learning to walk.
New walkers are so wobbly and learn to walk all different kinds of ways like they do in their crawling. No big deal unless a pedi/other specialist says so.

B's feet are the same way. Well, it seems to be primarily one foot that's turned out. I didn't notice it until MIL pointed it out, funny enough. I did some googling and it appears that it usually corrects itself but I'm still planning to ask the pedi about it at our next appointment. I'm curious whether it tends to cause any delays.

Really?! I had no idea!
Yes, both boys had/have to do this since they never got it the first flu season because they were younger than 6 months old. L got his flu shot 10/1 and goes back for the booster 11/2.
Baby will be sleeping in our room to start, ideally for a couple/few months. I have no idea where he would be napping. Crib, PNP in our room, or somewhere random. Where would you set up the monitor?

Ha, I didn't notice until MIL pointed it out either! I'll ask the pedi at his 1 year. MIL was just kind of over the top about it "my kids never did that! that doesn't seem normal! I'd call the doctor!".

I'd wait to see where he naps. For us it was pretty much only in my arms or in the car seat, so setting up a monitor wasn't necessary ::insert old wilted flower emoji here:: They're pretty easy to set up, so I wouldn't stress it.
I'm waiting to until J's 1 year appointment too scm1011, which is later this week.
Does anyone know if they will also give all his regular 1 year vaccinations on top of the flu shot? Or will I need to bring him back in a few weeks to get the rest of his shots?
L got all his shots plus a blood test, 5 different needles 🙁

We didn't set up the monitor for DD until she was about three months old. She spends the night in a bassinet in our bedroom so we put the monitor there, because if she's napping in there then we're likely in the living room and we've shut the bedroom door to keep noise and the cats out of the bedroom. It's only in the past month that we've been putting her down in the bedroom.
Before three months we usually put her down for a nap in a smaller bassinet in the living room, and we could keep an eye on her since we no longer use the second floor. We also swapped out the small living room bassinet for a Pack N Play in the past month, and sometimes she will nap in there.
She hasn't yet napped or slept in the crib in her nursery. I've tried to put her down in there a few times but she won't stay asleep. For now I just put her in there momentarily if I'm changing her and then I have to use the bathroom or grab more diapers from the closet or something.
I am sure I have missed this before, but I should start thinking about it - what seat do you use for the toilet when you start potty training? I'll also need a step stool since BB is petite. Any recommendations?

When dd was a newborn, noise didn’t seem to bother her. We had a PNP set up in the living room and she napped there for the first few months so I was close by. After a month or two, ambient noise would wake her up so I started putting her in her crib for naps. But she slept in crib from day 1 so that’s different for us. We also didn’t use a monitor until she was a it older. We could hear her crying in her room from downstairs.
Could a baby have an ear infection without a fever? My DD always had a high fever with hers, but my son has all the symptoms minus the fever. I feel like a FTM second guessing myself again.

BB would often have an ear infection and have none of the classic symptoms - fever, pulling on ear, etc. Or if she did have a fever, it was low enough that I thought nothing of it.

Ditto - my DD often wouldn’t have full blown symptoms whe. She had an EI.

Is there a 2 year-ish sleep regression? DD is struggling hard with naps on the weekends (is fine at dc) and at night. She refuses to be rocked and hates being put in her crib, but she will happily fall asleep on the floor at night. We started letting her start there and then put her in the crib when we head to bed so she’s contained. Should we transition her crib to a toddler bed? We have the rail already.

We replaced the toilet seats with ones that had two sizes of seats so we didn’t have anything extra. IKEA step stool. We also have a Bjorn potty and that’s what he used in the beginning.

Yes. My sons only symptoms were super snotty and acting like an asshole.

raangoli We got a seat from Amazon. I can't remember the brand but any really should do. The stool we got is from Ikea (we also got a potty chair there) but I wouldn't mind a slightly higher one because he still can't reach to turn on the water or the soap. We help him anyways right now but he does it himself at daycare. Anyways, the stool works perfect for the potty!

Blue Moon E didn't have a fever when he had an ear infection. We had no idea he had it. He kept saying his mouth hurt so I assumed it was molars. DC kept insisting he had an ear infection so we finally took him in.. oops, they were right!

When do kids typically learn to spit out toothpaste? E just eats it so we've been sticking with the toddler stuff. Just curious when he might start to understand that concept!
I don't think 11/13 is too late for a flu shot, although I did take Hobbes for a special app't for hers a few weeks ago. Her next well app't is the first week of December.
My main motivation in taking her for the flu shot separately was that I hate making her sit through multiple needle sticks at a well visit.

I think with DS it might have been somewhere between 3-3.5...

Am curious about this as well. BB is 21 months (tomorrow - whoa!) and we still use the toddler paste with her.

DD has been spitting since about 2. We brush our teeth together (2 sinks) so she mostly learned it by watching me. Meaning I let her play with the toothbrush while I brush mine, then I do hers after. We also watched the Elmo brushing teeth video a lot and talked about it a lot. She even rinses and spits now. It took a pretty strong effort on our parts to get her to do it, but she tends to learn fast.

DD slept in the PnP at night when she was little but napped in her crib always. When we moved her to the crib full time at about 2 weeks, she was WAY happier there. I would probably put the camera in the nursery if you need to mount it now since it will likely end up there permanently. Also, keep in mind, depending on the monitor, you can move the camera around. We didn't officially mount hers until she was old enough to stand/pull it in the crib (it was sitting on a bookshelf nearby).
