My ds3 is 4 months and his dr recommended cereals and solids to help with his reflux. I was surprised as I started at like 5 1/2 months with my other two. He said aap was backing off on their prior recommendations. Just curious when others start?

I'd be interested to hear from you if you try it or other who have in the past--specifically on whether it helps with reflux (and maybe, just maybe, longer stretches of sleep)!
We tried oatmeal in the bottle (per our doctor's recommendation) for E's reflux and it didn't help with reflux or sleep. Only time and zantac. I gave up on that after a week or two. We started solids for real at 5.5 months. ETA: we started with veggies.
We started at 4 months - she was ready and with my history of allergies it was important to use to expose her to more potential allergens sooner, because that seems to be what the latest research is indicating can help prevent allergies in high risk kids.

With DD1, 5.5 months. We started with oatmeal and then fruit, I think.
Last week the pedi said we could start DD2 on solids any day now. She'll be 5 months next week so I was really surprised. Pedi said they've been advising parents to start between 4-6 months nowadays. I think we'll still wait until she's closer to 6 months though, unless she suddenly starts watching us eating like a hawk and trying to get to our food (hasn't yet).

We started at 6mths with DD and skipped cereals. The pediatrician said to wait till 6 months then no restrictions, eat everything. That was 3 years ago, not sure if/how that's changed.
Our pedi gave us the green light at 4 months but I had read that 6 was better so I split the difference and did 5 months. He didn't really eat any substantial amount until 6 months but I enjoyed it so we went with it!

My pedi was pretty adamant about starting at 5 months. She says the new research shows early introduction is best. We only did one “meal” a day until like 8 months.
We started at 5m. He was sitting unassisted and had lost his tongue thrust reflex. The main reason was for weight gain, he went from 3rd to 30th percentile once we started solids.
Our pedi said 4 months. We started baby oatmeal at around 4.5 just because that's when we got around to it, then slowly introduced a new veggie every week or so.
Tried to feed veggies around 5 months but DS wasn't really having it. Tried again at 5.5 months and he seemed a little more willing. He only takes a few bites here and there for now.

This was what we did as well. At 4 months exactly we did three days of oatmeal, followed by sweet potatoes for 3 days, then peanut butter for 3, almond butter for 3, and cashews for 3. Not at 7.5 she's had all of the fruit and veggie purees that Gerber makes in stage 1 and 2 as well as some table food including eggs.
The pediatrician said at DD’s four month visit that we could start trying oatmeal and then vegetables.
She’ll be five months on the 15th. We’ve only tried oatmeal a few times and she seems interested but hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it yet, and this last week we’ve gotten sidetracked since she’s been sick.

6 months, started with fruit/veggie purees and oatmeal, though the pedi had said 4 months was ok. I don't really think she'd have been interested that early though. I do wonder if she had started earlier, if she wouldn't have food allergies.

Started a few days before 6 months. Everything that seems reputable that I've read about the 6 month EBF AAP recommendation makes me think they really meant "baby should get lots of breastmilk until 6 months," but they said "exclusively" because they thought it would get people to keep breastfeeding more and longer, not because they actually meant "exclusively." Which is dumb and annoying.
I would have started her on solids sooner--the peanut study was pretty convincing to me--but I was still doing breastfeeding elimination diets and food trials before that, and didn't want to add more variables.
We started with both kids right at 4 months. Started with oatmeal. DS is a little over 5 months now and he's had a few fruit and veggies as well. He's loved eating that way right away!
P will be 5 months on Tuesday and we started yesterday. He's getting a ton of breast milk but still seemed so hungry. After talking with the nurse, they encouraged us to start.
We started with rice cereal and are going to start fruit and veggie purees this weekend.
6 months & sitting unassisted for all of them. No cereals or purees, (well a little w/ my oldest but switched quickly) just baby led weaning, real food. No waiting in between foods. Just waited on honey to 1 and gave everything else.
DS2 will be 6 months next week and we started rice cereal a week or two ago. He's hit or miss. Some nights, he devours it, others he spits it out. I am going to grab some purees this weekend. I think I'll probably be a little less freaked out about giving him chunks of soft foods than I was with our first.
