Totally random, but I just had an idea for H for xmas. He took a Java class years ago and the instructor was awful and he learned nothing. He's got a couple of books about it that he's never going to make time to read, but maybe with a recorded online class series or dvds, he might try again. Given the past experience, I want to get something that doesn't suck.
Check Lynda.com. My library has a subscription so their members can take classes for free. I haven't watched a Java class but have liked the others I have taken.

I use Udemy as a free pre-screen for our tech training program and our company uses Udacity for the actual course. Most of our candidates finish Java training in a month because they are motivated to work for us, but the company says it takes about 60-90 days for the full micro-degree/cert.
