My family draws names among the adults (there are 11 of us including spouses). So IF my parents draw H and my names they ask us if we'd prefer money towards a bigger joint purchase or other smaller gifts.
Gift cards for food store, restaurants. If you want to do a joint gift, you don’t hsve to. Otherwise yeah just gift cards. Even a visa gift card because, it can help with anything!!
My mom got my ex and i pots and pans one year. Yeah, i was so upset in the breakup that i accidentally left them all there. I wasn’t arguing over cupcake tins and pots.
I gave two different couple friends a gift card for a Costco membership. Neither had a membership and both were thrilled. This year it costs $60, and that's probably not a splurge everyone likes to make -- to warehouse shop and maybe save money. I like for gifts to be a splurge -- something they won't buy themselves.
Now with a free membership -- they can fill themselves up on samples, browse, buy nothing except a delicious $11 pizza to go ;-)
P.S. if you give someone a giftcard for membership who already has one, they can use it to upgrade to premium membership that earns cashback. Or they can spend it on Costco stuff.
