Geometric prints on clothes: I'm sorry, I just can't condone this
I'll be sticking with my basic scarves, boots, long sleeved tops and big sweaters. (Although I did branch out last year and got some skinny jeans for my boots)

Leather pants look good on some people. But I think that number is low. I've seen them everywhere though.
I had a pair of pleather pants in junior high.
They did not look good.
(I think I wore them with sparkly geometric shirts....I was so ahead of my time)
FASHION FORWARD!
I've seen several pairs of leather leggings... IDK. I wear leggings and if I wore leather ones, I'd wear them the same way. I think leggings look good on me, but there's something about leather that makes me think it would look terrible on me. It could just be my style in general - I'm not much of a rocker type chick, lol, which is what I associate with leather pants.
i need a good but cheap boot since i realized yesterday that i only have 4 pairs of shoes - flip flops, uggs, tennies, and a slip on. but i dont know what kind to get. riding? one with a zipper? but i have a fat calf. and what do i wear with them? i don't have skinny jeans.

What is your definition of cheap? I gave up buying cheap boots becuase I find that they didn't even last the season. I invested in a pair of good black boots and they are now 5 years old and still look almost new (and they weren't THAT expensive, I think like $200).
But anyway, I like simple classic riding boots in brown. Zipper or no zipper is fine, I would jsut go with that fits best. I typically wear mine with skinny jeans becuase I like wearing my pants tucked into boots. But you can wear boots under boot cut jeans or straight legged jeans. You can also wear them with dresses, I love wearing mine with sweater dress or leggings.
This is probably not inexpensive, but I think something like this style is a good basic boot.
major - I'd get a pair of cognac (brown that goes with black/brown) riding boots of some kind. I think they go with everything. I wear mine daily in the fall/winter (since our winter is pretty mild).
Third for DSW. Also check Rack Room Shoes, Shoe Carnival, Famous Footwear. Any of those places will have nice boots for a pocket friendly price. I can't lie, I just can't spend $200 on boots. I look at everything as a bill. $200 - yeah, that's daycare and gas money for the month.

My justification is always price per wear, lol. I spent $250 (each) on both pairs of boots that I wear the most. But, I've worn them so much (and only had them 1-2 years) that it's down already to $1 each time I've worn them. They'll last forever, though, and if I ever have an issue with them, I can send them to Frye and they'll fix them or re-sole them, or whatever.
I resisted buying them for so long, because the price tag just seemed outrageous to me for some reason. In the meantime, I bought who knows how many pairs of boots/shoes in the $50-100 price range that I never wore because they weren't the style I really wanted, or they hurt my feet, or whatever.
In the end, I'm glad I spent the money on them, but at the same time, I do see where it's like - that price is too high. I certainly felt that way for several years. The one pair of boots I was dying for - I wanted them for like 5 years but just couldn't pull the trigger (but the 5 year thing also shows they are a pretty classic style).

This is pretty much what I was trying to get at. I was spending $50 each year buying new boots becuase the less expensive ones were trashed after one season of heavy use. So, in the end the price per wear ends up being better with more expensive boots. But I udnerstand it is hard to pull the trigger to buy more expensive shoes.
The cool thing about the pricier boots is that I can always get them resoled.

I have fat calves and I'd go with zipper. They are MUCH easier to get on that slip-on boots. Also try to keep them a few inches below the knee.
I got a brown pair at Macys 2 years ago and they're awesome. I get compliments all the time. They only have a 1/2 inch "heel," so they're basically flat riding boots. I think they were around $75. If you wait until later in the season, you might get some on sale.
I wear them with skirts (if the zipper digs into you, wear tall socks under them), or my skinny jeans, or you could wear them over leggings with dresses or tunics.
