DH and I have been doing our side gigs for the past month. He's been doing Uber Eats and I've been doing Instacart. We've brought in about $800 in the past 3.5-4 weeks. Instacart is only good if you're in a high volume area, but last night DH made $35ish/hr for the evening with Uber Eats. He goes after the kids are in bed (8pm) and I do Instacart 1 afternoon in the weekend for a couple of hours. We're not rich from it, but it is extra cash we didn't have before. Good luck!
I just finished up the sign up for Instacart - like I said, I'm in Bay Area CA, so I think it would be a high volume. How do you like it? Do you have to pay up front for the shopping, or are you just picking up pre-shopped for bags?
Bay Area is super hot! If you're a full service shopper, you'll shop for and deliver the groceries. You pay with a preloaded credit card provided by IC. If you're a delivery only person, people have already shopped for them and you're only delivering them. I do like it, but I am a good grocery shopper. Ha. The company itself is still a bit scattered, their customer service and employee support is sometimes less than desirable, but it's been fun and easy.
Nama-it's varied. Busy shifts, I averaged about $22/hr. Non-busy shifts were as low as $13/hr. But like I said, it's been easy and fun and so much freedom. Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions!

We’re in a similar boat and I use a few different websites/apps to make extra money. My favorites are Swagbucks and shopkick.
I make most of my money on Swagbucks by taking surveys. I like that I can do it while just vegging out on the couch. One of the cash out options is PayPal, so that is put towards our debt. shopkick only offers gift cards, but I’ve been using them toward Christmas presents.

Let me know if you want my referral codes.
I would totally take a referral code for Swagbucks!
I used to make between $2500-3500/project writing white papers for corporations. It’s boring but easy and I could do it from my couch.
I'm a pretty decent writer - what exactly is white papers, though? Lol.
Kind of like thought leadership pieces that are part research paper, part marketing material.
Unfortunately, I got all my gigs through word of mouth but if you know people who work in marketing or PR, you could ask them if they have any freelancing work. You could also look on elance or Upwork.

I've seen a lot of people in regular cars delivering packages for Amazon this holiday season. I have no personal experience, but it might be worth looking into.
If I remember correctly, you knit (or crochet). Can you make some items and sell them on Etsy?
Good memory! I do, and I had an Etsy site, but I discovered the market pretty over saturated and my output not really great enough to sell, lol.
I will check into Postmates and plasma centers as well. I did just sign up for Task Rabbit after all, and I guess waiting to see if I'm approved.
I'm in the Silicon Valley/ Bay Area, so I think a lot of these things should be nearby or popular enough.
Sign up for user research with the tech companies. $100/hr, though often a gift card. Still, just choose something you normally spend and use that, then put the $100 toward debt.

I was going to recommend swagbucks too. I let videos run most of the day on my chromebook and I can make $50 or more per month. I cash out to paypal and use it as a savings account.
My BIL delivers newspapers. He has been doing it for a few years to help he and my sister get out of debt. He actually makes about $900-$1000 per month plus nice tips at Christmas.
The early mornings kind of suck, but he only delivers in their neighbourhood so he’s close, and home in time to help get my niece and nephew off to school. He also treats it as exercise because he’ll park his car at the end of a street and run while he delivers, and then runs back and moves to the next block. I’m friends with him on the Fitbit app and he does like 10,000 steps before I’m even out of bed in the morning lol
This is interesting as well - how did he find that job?
Thanks, all, for the suggestions!!
My Uncle actually put him in touch with the contractor for the area. We have two newspapers in our city and he has a deal to deliver both of them in their community. He thought he’d only do it for a year or so, but it’s been 7 years and he’s still going strong.

I’ve particpated in Nichols Research groups (Sunnyvale). Have you ever tried Mystery Shopping? There are a lot of jobs available. I look on Craigslist for paid market research opportunities. I’m signed up with Plaza Research too.
I use Ongo Surveys, Mypoints, Swagbucks, Pinecone Survey, Tell Wut and ibotta.

Lurker here, but I've been doing instacart as a full time job for over a year and a half now. I absolutely love the job, just wish I could say the same thing about the company.

sugarkane - Ain't that the truth! I would say it's because it's a tech company masquerading as a service company, but even their tech is sometimes lacking! The app has been glitching left and right. Our zone is brand new, though, and it's fun for now. Nice to "meet" you!
Another vote for Rover if you like animals. The key though is to do some of your own marketing through next door, posting flyers, or in local fb groups. Rover won't display you toward the top of searches until you have some good ratings with repeat clients. I priced myself low until I got my first couple of clients and then that moved me up in the search. I also will only take jobs within 2-3 miles of my home because you aren't compensated for the drive time.
If you can luck out like I did, you can find someone who has a regular need and lives super close. I do drop in visits on my way to and from work for a gal who lives 2 blocks from me twice a day 3-4 times a week. Between her and a couple of other clients I am earning 200-400 extra a month for doing something I enjoy ( I love animals) and what I consider minimal effort.
I am going to throw my SB referral link out there too in case anyone else is interested. I have made 550.00 in the past 4 months just from Swagbucks. I did a few paid offers ( but only money makers for things I would buy anyways like shampoo or razor blades) so my net is maybe closer to 450.00 with a lot of " free" product thrown in there.
I joined Rev for transcription work, just for fun. You can make like $20 an hour once you become proficient but I only made $20 total and then stopped doing it.
I'm going to sign up with Rev. Thanks for the suggestion.
I work a second job as a way to pay down mortgage early and earn extra spending/house reno money. It's only on the weekend as a pet food rep. I enjoy it, I get paid $15/hr and average $300/month. I work when I want so I'm not tied down to a specific schedule. It sucks not having every weekend off but it's nice to do house reno's paying cash (new deck in cash for example)
It's also nice because DH usually has to work on the weekend so I'm not sitting at home bored, or out spending the money.
How’d you get the job as a pet food rep? You only have to work on weekends?
I only work on the weekends because it's a part time gig. In fact you can't work over 20 hours a week. Some reps do work during the week but with my day job I don't. I generally work Friday evenings, 2 shifts on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Each shift is only 4 hours so I average 12 hours a week, sometimes I'll pick up another shift but often I don't. I have my set petsmarts/petco's that I go into and literally stand around talking to people.
I think when I first started looking I googled or saw it on craiglist as a food rep. I only wanted a part time job and only on the weekends. I work from home during the week for my day job so I wanted something to also get me out of the house for a bit. I've been doing this now for 5 years. The perks aren't much - I get $40 back in dog food/treats each month (provided you use that brand), and 401k. You also get a pet adoption credit of $300 if you adopt a pet while you're with the company.
It's BORING, you're expected to work every weekend and you're on your feet the entire time but the money is nice, gets me out of the house etc. Saturdays I'm done at 6, Sunday's I'm done at 2.

The app glitches are horrible. I have a feeling that I know which zone you're working in. There are lots of Bay area shoppers in our national fb group. There is also a pretty active sf group. You should join those for commiseration and if you have questions that shopper happiness doesn't answer properly.
And can you basically share tips like you were talking to a dummy? I have never heard of Swagbucks but I am intrigued. However, it looks like you just get gift cards, not cash, is that correct?

I redeem my points on Swagbucks for Paypal, so it is essentially cash.
Have the surveys on Swagbucks gotten better? It always seemed to end in me not qualifying. It's also annoying because you can't do the videos on a tablet so I've backed off on swagbucks.
I've been with Rev for several months now. I like it because you can just do it whenever you can fit it in and you can take short jobs if you don't have a lot of time. But I don't understand how anyone makes $20 an hour. Honestly I'm at about $8. Which is sad but it is great because I can literally do an hour or so whenever. The quality of the audio is absolutely terrible until you get to Rev+ status but then it does get better. If you're interested in a lot of different things you'll find it interesting and do well. But they expect absolutely perfect work for that paltry pay and until you learn to pick the right jobs for yourself you might be spending a lot of time doing research. I'm happy to answer questions if anyone has them. I try to get a few hundred dollars a month there and it helps.
I just saw a BUNCH of people signed up with my code! Thank You!
I just realized I don't have my tip sheet at home so I am typing this up as best as I can remember so bear with me.
Swagbucks allows you to earn gift cards or cash ( via paypal) in a few different ways. Each SB is worth a penny so 2500 SBs is 25 dollars
under the " hamburger " menu at the top you will see some of the categories for earning
The categories are Home, Shop, Watch, Answer, Discover , Search and Play.
Home is the " Main Screen" this will show your log in as well as snippets of what is offered in each section. You can find a the most popular offers and most recent offers of the day here. This is also where your swag code button is and your profile information. You must navigate to home to see any pending swag bucks, your daily goal or any bonus challenges for the day and your daily to do list. I will talk more about these things later.
Shop- Shop is just like ebates if you are familiar. You are going through the SBs link and earning cash back. I now use this almost exclusively instead of other cash back sites, because I like having everything in one place. Your mileage may vary. Shopping Swagbucks are often pending up to 60 days.
Watch is watching videos for SBs. The most popular are N Craves. This is because some of the Ncraves will auto run ( meaning you can watch them without constantly clicking to the next video. The ones that will auto run will generally have an orange arrow in circle on them. The ones that don't generally have to be clicked through to advance. One of the N Craves is called AYCE 2 this one is auto run AND you are allowed to run it AT THE SAME TIME as any other NCrave.
Each morning I generally run AYCE 2 and She Knows at the same time and in a few minutes have earned 8 SBs. Then I run Healthy Living Tips, and Stars Where are they Now? with AYCE 2 as many times as they will let me. These are quick money makers. A quick tip is to refresh your NCrave page between each watching session.
The other videos generally make you click to advance them each time. This is tedious to me and time consuming so I don't bother UNLESS there is a bonus for watching on the desktop that day or week.
Answer -
These are the surveys. They are for various amounts of SBs. Everything from 2 SBs to 3500 SBs and more. You will need to be consistent and honest with your answers or else they will ban you. I usually make most of my SBs here. I like surveys a lot. This is also where the In Home Usage Tests are. This is where you get into a study for something like toothpaste or a cleaner and they send you a product home to test and you get a lot of SBs for it. I have gotten between 500-2500 SBs for IHUT. They aren't easy to get into, but the more surveys you take the more you will get. You will NOT qualify for every survey. I think you get up to 5 1SB bonuses for DQing on surveys each day though.
Discover is the next catagory. Basically this is a bunch of offers you can complete for SBs. Some of these are paid offers and some are not. I only do paid offers if they are Money Makers ( like 10.00 for 2000 SBs ) and it is something I might buy anyways ( like Hulu or razors or conditioner.)
MOST paid offers are pending for a certain amount of time. So if you NEED the Swagbucks right away they might not be available for up to 60 days.
Also in this catagory is " Our Trusted Partners" these are sites like Peanut Labs and Revenue Universe. Peanut Labs has some more good surveys and offers. Sometimes you can luck out and get offers like Insurance Branch ( just put in your zip code for SBs) or Daily Breaks ( little games and ads for SBs)
If I do any paid offer I take a screenshot of the offer that confirms I did it and paid. Swagbucks sometimes is glitchy and might not pay out. Therefore I like to have proof in case I need to put in a ticket.
Search- Searching the web through SBs. It is random how many SBs you might earn. GENERALLY you can only earn 4 times a day, anywhere from 4 SBs to 100 SBs. It doesn't matter how much you search. I never earn a lot here.
Play- There are free games you can earn a few SBs playing and paid games. I have only done the paid games once and it was complicated to figure out how many SBs I was getting so it's not my thing.
