My H and I have started really working on and sticking to a budget (thank you, YNAB) and are trying to face our debt head on. While we currently make just enough to cover our bills and feed ourselves, there's nothing left for saving and/or throwing at debt. We simply do not have schedules that will allow for a second job at this time.
My question is - does anyone do anything to make extra money? My H doesn't want us doing anything like TaskRabbit or Lyft, but I am going to keep working on him about that. I know there's surveys that you can take online, which I've tried but never really qualify for the high paying ones.
What is your husbands resistance to Lyft? I drive for them when I need extra money. I live in a big city where it is constantly busy and usually make around $20-$25/hour

I do childcare for extra cash. It’s not for everyone and you have to really enjoy kids but it’s the most I can make while my own kids are little and would eat up any earnings with my own. childcare.
We also readjusted our lifestyle a lot. I have no idea if you’re eating lentils or buying five Starbucks a day, so I won’t patronize you with tips but *i* found it easier to trim some necessities and adjusting my mindset than to earn more.

Number one is that only my car would qualify (2011 Corolla vs 1997 Ford Expedition), and my car is in shit condition with hella miles already (we were a one car family for a while when I had a 45 mile one way commute that we would do 4 times a day when he took me and picked me up). Secondly, he doesn't really want me doing it by myself, even though I'm a grown ass woman.

Good luck!
I've been using YNAB for about a month so far, and it has really helped both of us weigh a LOT more carefully how we're spending our money. We've been eating at home for a month straight now, which is so sad that that is a record for us, but we're getting used to it. It's just our debt is really eating up all expendable cash.

Do you have stuff you could get rid of? You can list things on Facebook sale groups and craigslist. I've seen all kinds of stuff. I recently listed a few items and I sold them all within a couple of weeks. It was surprisingly easy.
You could also sell clothes, shoes, accessories on Poshmark.
Do you like pets and have experience with them? My friend dog sits for extra cash and there are sites like rover.com where you could walk dogs or take care of them in people's homes. She has had good experience with it.
I work a second job as a way to pay down mortgage early and earn extra spending/house reno money. It's only on the weekend as a pet food rep. I enjoy it, I get paid $15/hr and average $300/month. I work when I want so I'm not tied down to a specific schedule. It sucks not having every weekend off but it's nice to do house reno's paying cash (new deck in cash for example)
It's also nice because DH usually has to work on the weekend so I'm not sitting at home bored, or out spending the money.

First of all, great job at sticking to your budget! It’s definitely not easy.
If there isn’t any time to work a second job I’d start selling things you don’t need. It’s gives you extra cash and it’s so freeing to get rid of extra stuff.

I like the idea of walking dogs! I will check out that site.
Most of my clothes and accessories come from Target, lol - not sure how much they'd be worth.
My BIL delivers newspapers. He has been doing it for a few years to help he and my sister get out of debt. He actually makes about $900-$1000 per month plus nice tips at Christmas.
The early mornings kind of suck, but he only delivers in their neighbourhood so he’s close, and home in time to help get my niece and nephew off to school. He also treats it as exercise because he’ll park his car at the end of a street and run while he delivers, and then runs back and moves to the next block. I’m friends with him on the Fitbit app and he does like 10,000 steps before I’m even out of bed in the morning lol
Look at odd jobs boards and temp work sites. I'm helping my niece through university, but I will only do so much lol, so whenever her and her boyfriend need a quick influx of cash, they pick up an odd job- landscaping, snow removal, dog walking, her boyfriend has done loading/unloading for concerts and events st like $20/hr for two nights of work.

If you like the option of walking dogs, overnight pet sitting might be an option. We pay our overnight pet sitter $50 a night, sometimes for 10 days at a time. He stays in our guest room, and works his regular job. Also, look at elder care, post surgery care, driving to appointments, helping with grocery picking up, shopping, meals, ect. It pays pretty well. I have hired people to help me with these task when I have had surgery, and DH can only take a day off work, but I am not allowed to drive or lift for weeks. I have two young kids, but few friends who do not work full time, so I don't feel comfortable asking them to come over and load the dishwasher.

How’d you get the job as a pet food rep? You only have to work on weekends?
Uber Eats of one of the other many food delivery services? There's another one in our area called Runner something, where you can deliver Wendy's, McDonald's, etc.
ETA: Some grocery stores, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, etc., hire overnight stockers. You can do a late night or very early shift stocking shelves when the store is closed.

This is interesting as well - how did he find that job?
A note about UberEats - Unless it has changed in the past 6 months, you couldn't solely do UberEats, the app would push either rides, or UberEats orders. And the pay was pretty terrible, It was about $5 per delivery, and it usually takes 20-30 minutes per delivery (in my area) so, not really all that lucrative.
I joined Rev for transcription work, just for fun. You can make like $20 an hour once you become proficient but I only made $20 total and then stopped doing it.

Overnight daycare could be a huge help to someone in your area if you are willing to do it. Or, just early morning to school time. It can be really hard to find someone to watch a kid overnight or early in the morning. I had enough trust with my son's babysitter that I would bring him in and get him settled on the couch (at 3-4 am), then leave, and she didn't even have to get out of bed. I know a few people who really struggle to find someone to watch kids on some of the crazy shifts.

I was going to suggest this too. I have a sahm friend who earns a couple of hundred dollars a month via rev.

DH and I have been doing our side gigs for the past month. He's been doing Uber Eats and I've been doing Instacart. We've brought in about $800 in the past 3.5-4 weeks. Instacart is only good if you're in a high volume area, but last night DH made $35ish/hr for the evening with Uber Eats. He goes after the kids are in bed (8pm) and I do Instacart 1 afternoon in the weekend for a couple of hours. We're not rich from it, but it is extra cash we didn't have before. Good luck!

I just finished up the sign up for Instacart - like I said, I'm in Bay Area CA, so I think it would be a high volume. How do you like it? Do you have to pay up front for the shopping, or are you just picking up pre-shopped for bags?
