We’re going on vacation next week Thursday to Clearwater Beach, FL from Chicago. We both have horrid colds and I desperately want to kick this (and remain healthy through airplane travel)...
The weather has been horribly cold lately = very dry air. Current symptoms: mucousy cough, congestion, ears plugged/sore, sore throat (maybe from post nasal drip/mouth breathing), achy/sensitive to touch. I don’t think it’s bacterial or the full blown flu. Currently using:
- humidifier in bedroom - taking my usual supplements (multi, Vit D, etc.) - using NyQuil severe cold/flu at bedtime to help me sleep - Riccola Natural Herb cough drops throughout the day
- I just picked up Theraflu Express Max to take during the day tomorrow...
Generally I hate taking a million meds but I dunno what else to do. Taking a sick day is not an option.
Honey? Tea? Elderberry? Any helpful tips for flying while sick or staying healthy while flying?
You should be fine by next week. My go to is always Tylenol cold and sinus in the dissolvable tabs.... and I LOVE Clearwater! Are you traveling with kids or without?

No kids! I’ve been to FL many times but it’ll be our first time on that coast. Any must-dos? We love just about all food (though not a ton of meat), drinking, outdoors, wondering around new places.
Elderberry, neti pot twice a day, and get as much sleep as you can with a humidifier in the room.
Any specific recommendations for the elderberry? I saw Walgreens had the brand Sambucol chew tabs and the syrup.
I've always used Sambucol. I think in general liquid meds work better but that might be mental. I like the quick melt tablets too! It's expensive but I do think it boosts your immune system.

Lots of fluids. I used emergen-c on Friday when I felt a cold coming in and it never turned into a cold, which is rare for me. I used the effervescent tabs.
I came in here to commiserate. I have literally all of your symptoms also. I have been downing water, using NyQuil at night to help me sleep (and sleeping on my recliner in the living room so I'm propped up more), DayQuil during the day and sucking on Halls cough drops when my cough gets going. I am still in the thick of it; these things suck. I hope you are feeling better soon!

Sorry for the late reply. I was a little underwhelmed with the Clearwater aquarium. There are lots of fun drinking/dinner cruises on the marina. My fav places to eat/drink were frenchys, clear sky for breakfast, and jimmys roof top bar.
Can your doctor prescribe you Flonase? It’s a prescription strength nasal spray that helps a lot when I have a bad cold. Also a ton of fluids and going to bed extra early.
