Is there where I admit that I find it strange how everyone is throwing the word s***hole around on TV? It throws me off. Yes, I am pearl-clutchy about this for some reason ... What a disgrace
Um, they said S***Hole on NPR. Warned to turn it down if you have kids in the car. H & I just looked at each other 😐
I was just getting ready to post the same thing. My jaw dropped when I heard him say it. Also, did anyone hear the interview on Morning Edition with Paul Gosar, the AZ Congressman? I was screaming at my radio after that one. He pretty much said that because IQ45 isn't a career politician he didn't know not to call other countries shitholes. He then went on to say that any word can be derogatory and accused Dems of pulling the race card by calling out 45's words as racist. If I could have reached through my radio and strangled him I would have without a single hesitation. Rachel Martin did theinterview and you could hear in her voice that she was struggling with not losing it on him.

The denial is that he called Haiti a shithole. Someone who was there clarified that he did not say it about Haiti, just all African countries. He is racist as hell. And is hiding behind the fact he didn't say it about one country ... as if that makes it ok. He is a jackass.
Official press release from the government of Botswana:
The Botswana Government has also enquired from the US Government through the Ambassador, to clarify if Botswana is regarded as a “shithole” country given that there are Botswana nationals residing in the US, and also that some of Batswana may wish to visit the US.
I'm so embarrassed and ashamed.
For real?! Is that their actual, real press release? OMG.

He is so vile. Every other day he says or does something worse. Just when you think he has gone as low as it is possible for a POTUS to go, there he goes, lowering the bar again.
If he survives the next three years, our relations with other countries will be ruined for decades
I want someone with balls to come out and say "I was there. You said it."
Has Durbin said anything?
Yup.
Sen. Dick Durbin now knocking down Trump's denial: "It's not true. He said those hateful things, and he said them repeatedly."
But of course, since Trump has denied it, they'll all just say (as Trump has) that Durbin/the Dems are lying.
Jake Tapper is also reporting via a source that Trump only referred to African nations as a shithole country. During the Haitian part, he just said, "why do we want them here? get them out." and then later in the conversation the talk turned to Africa and he said the shithole country remark. Which, you know, is no defense at all to the atrociousness of his comments, but is apparently enough for the GOP.
As usual his word salad is difficult to follow, but it appears so.
DT - "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!"
Also, I don't remember reading anything about him saying "take them out"? Did anyone else see that reported or is he just making up stuff again?
DT - "Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"
I hate repeating his racist garbage, but WaPo reported that he said “why do we need more Hatians? Take them out.”

Now that people know to expect this, I hope anyone with any courage will shame him by getting up and leaving the room the next time he does it. Cuz you know there will be a next time. HE is the racist POS.

Korva Coleman must have been super uncomfortable (I know I would be).

And now we've reached the moment in time when NPR has specific guidelines for the use of the word 'shithole'.
Melissa Block - New on-air “shithole” guidance from @npr’s standards keeper, @markmemmottnpr

Now that Durbin filled us in, it sounds so much worse if that is even possible like he kept going on and on. Someone pointed out on twitter yesterday saying if R’s only had been in the room, we might not ever have heard about it because clearly this can’t be the first time.
What could the legal repercussions be if someone secretly recorded Trump (example, if they simply started recording a video on their phone and slipped it into their pocket during a meeting with him) and then released the audio/video?

Anyway, is this the worst thing he has ever said (as President)?? I think it might be. I was surprised that something he said could possibly surprise me, but I audibly gasped when reading about this last night.

They had it SPELLED OUT on the bottom of the CNN broadcast. And obviously said the phrase aloud. It just surprised me. CNN is what we have on in the café at work. I don't know what the network shows did about it.

Depends on what the relevant local/state laws are. Probably also if anything discussed is classified because that might trigger some sort of specific law related to classified material.
Seeing reporters on Twitter say 45 was on the phone last night with a bunch of aides and friends asking how they thought this was playing out in the press. Also the denial tweet was sent after Fox and Friends said he should walk it back. He’s such a lame ass piece of shit.
To clarify - some states have a two person statute where both people involved need to be aware. It’s like a notification type law. Others don’t require that. But it may also just be typically about admissibility - I’m not sure there’s any legal penalty for recording someone if you’re only goal is to leak it to the press or something. It might vary.
It's so discouraging and sad to know that nothing is going to come of this.
And these shitbags are going to be standing there applauding this monster as he strolls in to give the State of the Union, and lining up afterward to kiss his ring and slobber all over him.

except foxnews.com. They are the only ones I've noticed censoring it -> s--hole. At least they are covering it I guess but it seems to me to be a way to lessen the impact of it.

I can't wait to see what nickname Dick Durbin gets from Trump for his comments.
My money is on Tricky Dick.
And then when someone points out that nickname has been taken, he'll tell us he's never heard of it before, and is so smart for inventing that nickname with his stable genius brain.
