It's just Romaine right? Green leaf or iceberg are ok? baby spinach I presume? I have to admit, I had no idea there was an issue but last week I had severe stomach pains, gas, nausea and (TMI strange BM.)
My coworker mentioned the romaine lettuce possible exposure and I did have some romaine in a wrap the 2 days prior and immediately was nauseaus after half a wrap. I finally feel back to normal but prefer not to risk it again until it is all cleared.
Well, the illness is definitely in my state according to CDC. They havent said it is the lettuce and it could have been a coincidence but I prefer not to risk it. I think I will go with the green leaf or iceberg
This is me now. My kids hate the texture/coldness of lettuces so I don’t even buy it anymore. I only buy spinach or kale for smoothies or cook it pasta, soup. I hadn’t heard about this particular e.coli outbreak.

Romaine hearts, is what the said on the news. I got organic baby spinach and a spring greens mix instead. Probably still playing with fire. But it made me feel better.

“CDC is not recommending that U.S. residents avoid any particular food given the short shelf life of leafy greens and because a specific type of leafy greens has not been identified.”
I didn't know there had been a contamination? We're eating greens as usual. I rinse with a salad spinner.
We are extra careful with melons and pineapple. I think the risk with those is listeria? Maybe? All I remember is a few years ago there was a widespread outbreak from melon. I now scrub those with soap, wipe dry, and then slice. I cringe thinking about all of the produce out there that people slice through the rind without washing first. So many nooks and crannies where bacteria can hide - and how often do you see a random piece of produce on the floor at the grocery store?

There was never a recall and the source of outbreak was never identified. The outbreak only lasted a few weeks, as far as I know. From mid-November to mid-December. I don't think there is anything to worry about. I sell romaine for a living and our business was only affected for a few days, really.

You can wash your veggies in a water/hydrogen peroxide mix to clean of bacteria. HP kills pretty much everything. YOu let them soak for five minutes or so, I think, rinse and then eat.
