Unfortunately, a lot of the pins sold in bulk are not the real deal. But also know that a lot of the pins being circulated at the parks right now are fake. It's gotten to the point where the parks have special trading pin boards where you can only trade for a pin from the same recent collection. This weeds out some of the fakes.
That being said, kids don't really know/care if pins are real or counterfeit. Most times you can't tell the difference. This is the best answer I can formulate right now, I may need to clarify tomorrow LOL.

If you are on FB I highly suggest joining some Disney pin groups. They will be able to tell you who the reputable sellers are on ebay and a lot of them also sell pins (hidden mickeys, extras from starter packs, mystery pin duplicates, etc). Most of the pins you find on ebay for cheap are going to be scrappers (fakes or discarded factory seconds) and you can tell the difference if you have seen the real pin. Most of them have telltale signs that they are fake; the colors are off, the enamel/paint dips into the pin, etc.
