BREAKING: Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) tells me 3 passengers aboard the hit truck. 1 is dead. 2 injured. He and other lawmakers helped carry one of the injured truck passengers to an ambulance with local medical personnel.
So sad for the truck driver. I'll be honest. My first thought went to terrorism. What's the likelihood that a train carrying so many members of congress has an accident?
How does this happen? Was there no warning that the train was coming? I just have so many questions.
An ABC News reporter tweeted that based on what lawmakers are telling her, it appears the truck was trying to hurry and cross before the crossing gates came down and did not make it in time. Train was traveling at around 50 mph.

How would the lawmakers know this? Did they get that information from the conductor? I take the train everyday and I do not have a full frontal view, even when I sit in the first car.
Usually the gates come down pretty far before the train rolls through. I wonder if it stalled or something. This is all so strange.
My sister tried that once. I was in the passenger seat and all I could see was front-of-train. I still have shivers thinking about it. She was a very stupid 19 or so at the time. But for a truck that size to try to outrun the rails makes me wonder. She was driving a little Ford Fiesta econobox and still had to swerve to get between them. There's not a lot of room to maneuver.
I'm very sorry to hear that there were injuries and a casualty. When I first posted it was breaking news and no reported injuries at the time. My sympathy to those who are impacted by this accident.
Except what the eff was Jeff Flake, et al. doing "helping carry one injured to an ambulance" There were first responders on site there and the only thing he and the others could do was get in the way and possibly exacerbate any existing injuries. There is no "Good Samaritan" needed here. Pompous asses, the lot of them.
I don't think it's terrorism. I mean, of course I could be wrong, but I have friends posting that this was THEIR garbage crew and had just been at their houses. They could see the accident from their houses.

WOT?* my thoughts exactly re: Flake & Gang Worse: you just know they were going for a snapshot for every website/ front pages tomorrow of their “Heroic efforts in a desperate attempt to help save a life!” Hork. I do feel awful for those afflicted.
Flake mentioned there were eye witnesses not involved in the accident.
Trump just said a few words about the accident and did not say one word about the person who died. Like, no sympathy or prayers for the family or anything. How is that not the first thing you say? But he did mention at least twice that the meeting would still happen.
