Car washes are popular fundraisers around here for high school sports teams. On the weekends, there is one at practically every gas station. And on top of that, the kids stand at the stop lights and run into the street and across the street to collect donations. I seriously passed four car washes on my way to Target, when I had to dodge scantily clad teenage girls in bikinis darting across the street to solicit money from people in cars. By the time I got back home, I was all out of ones from getting hit up at every light. They practically stand there and beg you for money, especially if your window is down. I'll occasionally get my car washed at one of the teams in our school district, and I don't mind supporting the local schools, but damn, I'm going to go broke just driving down the street!
The kids in my area are lazy. They don't wash cars, they just stand at every intersection in town with a bucket asking for money. Last week the high school Spanish club was standing at intersections getting donations to go to Spain. I say, fuck that, they can go to Spain when they grow up and get a job, because I want to go to Spain too, and no one is standing around taking collections for that. (I do give to the kids who actually raise money for causes I find worthy though...I'm all about the fundraisers that keep the extracurriculars alive, buying uniforms for kids who need them and all that jazz, not paying for two week vacations.) I guess I'm an asshole.

I get really annoyed when the kids are standing around doing nothing and the parents are asking for money. Fuck that. When I was in activities and fundraising for stuff, I went and did it.
Just say no? I guess I'm meaner than you because I refuse to donate to every single cause just because someone asks me to. I just say "no thanks". If I gave money to every single person who rang my doorbell and asked for it, or parent who is selling shit for their kids at work, or every hunger/aids/breast cancer/etc walk they were doing, I'd be broke.
Our grocery store always has kids canning on the weekend. I try to avoid those times and rarely donate. I raised money through babysitting and other activities when I wanted to do something and there are plenty of activities I didn't do because they were to expensive.
I get annoyed with the kids canning at the grocery store but I judge the parents having their 8 year old stand outside a big liquor store in a cheerleading uniform asking for donations.

I don't just give donations. I will more often than not buy raffle tickets, bake sale, crappy items I don't really need, and do the car washes assuming I have the extra. If I have to work for my money, so do you.

Just say no. It's common to not carry cash. Support what you want to support. I do not like being hit up for cash while driving. I think it is dangerous and holds up traffic
