My husband got a quote in the mail for a lower insurance rate from an off-brand company. He called our carrier to see if they would match it. They reviewed our current situation and dropped the cost of coverage from $2100/yr to $1400. yay!
Insurance rates are regulated and approved by each state; you can't just arbitrarily negotiate them. I'd be very curious to know exactly what they changed to get the lower rate--were you not getting credits you were previously entitled to? Like PP said, did they take away coverage? increase deductibles? Personally I'd be a little ticked they didn't offer the rate to me a long time ago-why did you have to ask for it?
