These people have been ALL OVER the news here, and it's driving me nuts that their incompetence is taking up so much news space. Something that isn't clear in the articles, but these 2 didn't know how to sail, yet this was their dream.
1) WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR GO FUND ME! 2) WTF you are taking your pug to sail the world with you? Pugs can’t swim!!! Too much neck fat not enough neck 😂

Not the point, but wouldn't fat help them float since it's bouyant? I get the part about not enough neck.

In any case I'm glad the dog is OK.
One might think but no neck and flat face make it hard to keep their face above water. I have seen pugs swim but it is a learned skill. Mine can with a life jacket that has a strap to keep her chin up.

The next time these morons will be in the news is when they are being rescued by the coast guard 28.34 hours into their 2nd attempt to sail around the world.

Until this thread, I have steadfastly avoided opening any stories on this couple because the blurbs are enough to irk me. The dream of a pair of mediocre naïfs, tragically lost at sea lololololololol.
Boohoo, they're stupid. I feel sorry for their dog and anyone who throws money their way. The end.

To be honest, when you are buying a boat for $5000 and it is ‘equipped’ for sailing around the world, you don’t put insurance on it. Insurance will cost 5x as much as the boat and it doesn’t payout worth shit, so many cruisers self-insure, meaning they know they may lose it all or they actually have $50-$60k in the bank
These idiots were probably inspired by some of the hobo cruisers out there who write books and blogs about their sailing travels. Most of them actually know what they are doing, and cruisers barter services and usually work some kind of a remote job (or, you know, actually have savings so they can afford food, medical insurance, Harbour fees, gas money, and repairs).
Where they really show their stupid is sailing at night. I’ve spent over a year at sea on various boats and have my cruising licenses so I can rent a boat anywhere in the world and you avoid sailing at night at all costs. Obviously when you are crossing the Atlantic you don’t have a choice, but one day out from your first port, you should really not be playing around in the dark. It’s far less safe and you really can’t see well to navigate or avoid hazards to navigation. I doubt this $5000 boat was equipped with an excellent depth sounder, radar or gps. Ugh.

You people think about this all wrong. The idiots are the ones donating to this "charity." The smart ones are the unemployed people setting up a go fund me and watching the idiots donate while high-fiving each other in their parents' cottage house. You are all just jelly; I sure the fuck em.
