There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.
Nice that Romney thinks I'm a shiftless layabout. Good thing to say about half the people you want to preside over as President. And it's rich to say we pay no income tax, coming from him.
1) if he doesn't make income (which he does and pays taxes), then he would pay income taxes. He does, though, but his issue is capital gains. 2) I am no fan of these. Kind of like how some dems mock republican voters for being dumb/anti woman/anti poor/uncaring. 3) and the 47% pay no taxes is only true if speaking to income. They do pay others The 47 percent number is not wrong. The stimulus programs of the last two years — the first one signed by President George W. Bush, the second and larger one by President Obama — have increased the number of households that receive enough of a tax credit to wipe out their federal income tax liability. www.nytimes.com/2010/04/14/business/economy/14leonhardt.html

The thing that pisses me off the most is they got exactly what they wanted... and now they're bitching about it. They wanted low taxes; the tea party was started because they thought they were taxed too much. Well now guess what, thanks to all the tax cuts, nearly half the country pays ZERO in income taxes. Can they still complain they're taxed too much? Nope, but now they have to piss and moan because some people are not taxed enough. And it's not even logical to complain that these people get "free stuff" without paying for it, since Paul Ryan's original budget proposed reducing the capital gains tax to ZERO. So I guess it's okay for some people to get free stuff without paying for it, but not others.

Mitt Romney's campaign responded to the hidden camera footage of Romney at fundraiser claimg that Obama's voters are "are dependent upon government" and "believe that they are victims" posted online in a statement Monday evening.
"Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy. As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work," Romney spokesperson Gail Gitcho said in a statement. "Mitt Romney's plan creates 12 million new jobs in four years, grows the economy and moves Americans off of government dependency and into jobs."

I have found in my adventures as a person who is friends with many people who are on government aid/pay absolutely no taxes that they are MORE likely to vote for Romney. I don't understand why, but they are more anti-poor people than anyone else I know. I guess they are a special circumstance snowflake and everyone else getting aid of any kind is a shiftless layabout?

I think the juiciest part is the part about hispanics...
In the video, Romney is heard saying, "My dad, as you probably know, was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company. But he was born in Mexico ... and had he been born of Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot at winning this. But he was unfortunately born to Americans living in Mexico. He lived there for a number of years. I mean, I say that jokingly, but it would be helpful to be Latino."

Hey, nice that Romney admitted his dad wasn't really Constitutionally qualified to run for President back when he did so. And oh Mitt, he WAS born to Mexican parents. They were just white Mormons.

Wait this isn't the Onion? He really said that? If so, f you Mitt Romney.
My facebook feed is blowing up with this right now.
Remember in 2008, when Obama kept playing that commercial where McCain said, "the fundamentals of our economy are strong" to paint him as out of touch, clueless, and incapable? I think we've found this year's equivalent.
Apparently, the video was shot by jimmy Carter's grandson? Interesting factoid. (just saw on dk)
Yes.
I met him once. We had beers together at a conference. He was cute. I flirted but got nowhere. Someone from another country said to him, "if you are from the South, you must be Republican." He looked at him like he had three heads and was like, "um, not quite."

Cool, whose kid is he?
And with this gaffe, I think Romney might be done. It's true, America hates deadbeats. It seems to be our favorite sport to point fingers and bitch about the deadbeats. But you can't call nearly half of America deadbeats and expect that to go over well. Every single person who voted for Obama expects a government handout? Get a freaking clue, Mitt.
Some of those who aren't paying income taxes are students who don't earn much and are exempt, and the elderly. And a lot of the rest would love to earn enough to pay, but they don't. But that doesn't mean they're on government aid, or that they're not paying payroll taxes, sales tax, etc.

Aren't like half of those non-income tax payers oldies on SS? AKA Romney supporters... Actually, I live in a really poor, really red state and I think most people I know who fit into that category are Romney supporters. It's probably too much to hope that they'll hate them for this, though, right?
The funny thing is, most of the people I know who support Romney fall into that 47%.
Oh stereotypes. Funny where they will get you.
Exactly. The people he is insulting - the ones who receive the EIC, for example - are more likely to be in those "red states" he is relying on winning.
Was it Jason Carter? The one in office in GA? We went to high school together in IL.
That's who I assumed it was, but I googled just now to confirm and there's no specific links, but I saw something that suggested it was a different Carter grandson but nobody seems to be certain. So I've met Jason, who is apparently not the person who captured this video so I was wrong. Too funny you went to high school with him. He was adorable.

One of my high school classmates is married to one of Jimmy Carter's grandson...it's not Jason though.
