This is why we have a veto rule in place. H vetoes anything gray because he thinks it will look like we live in a cemetery (clearly he does not know what he is talking about) and I veto a lot of things like when we were doing our son's nursery in an aviation theme, and he thought that literally anything with planes on it would match because it was a planes room. So the main colors were a muted aqua and pale orange, and he was picking things in bright primary reds and blues, and insisting they matched because they had planes on them. (I may have burst into tears in Home Depot when he tried to buy a red and blue ceiling fan with an airplane on it.) Veto rule was invoked numerous times on that project.
Next time he's out of town, hire painters to paint the wall a muted version of this color, like a deep teal, hang some new curtains, and when he asks what's different, say the different curtains must have changed the lighting, which changed the look of the paint color.
I redecorated our living room while my H was at a conference.
Great minds! I once "surprised" my H with a bedroom remodel while he was on a weekend trip. More like, 'Look at the bedroom I decorated 100% without your input, and you have to like it no matter what, cause it's a sweet surprise I did JUST FOR YOU!'
The color is a shape shifter. In some lights it's electric blue, in others it's somewhat peacock.
I wonder about painting it a slightly different color. It might be worth the effort. He would be amenable, theoretically.
I feel like my den is gaslighting me.
The example with the mauve accents works because it’s a darker, deeper, more sophisticated color. You could go that direction or you could go lighter. Tell him GBCN unanimously agrees you need to repaint and he can choose between the two darker or light paint samples you show him.

We had veto rules when it came to baby names. For home decor, I do what I want and DH doesn’t care that much, although we have way different taste. He does the cooking so the kitchen is his space (and not really decorated at all). He knows I’m a pro so I’m more qualified to make these decisions and I win automatically. The only thing he fusses about is seating he thinks looks uncomfortable and the only home decor thing we have ever truly disagreed about was a lazy boy recliner he wanted.

I've done that a couple of times. He's so worried that the paint color I choose is going to be too dark (if he had his way, the house would be pastel) that I just paint and buy new stuff while he's gone..
H always disagrees with my paint choices. He wants all whites and I shoot for moderate natural tones. He always admits I'm right though once it's up.
In your case I'd say that some colors were meant for the home and some belong... on cubbies in a daycare maybe? Can you pull a bunch of acceptable shades that run along what he likes? Maybe more if a gorgeous real peacock or deep teal? Maybe if he can see something decent within his pallet he'd go along with it. That's what I had to do for my teen. No black, no blood red, no deep purple. How about one of these gorgeous shades of deep orchid and we can do black fabric accents that I don't have to paint over later?
