I'm going to start with the FB post that first caught my eye. George Hofstetter, a high school student in Oakland, developed an app called CopStop that videos and uploads tamper-proof video of meetings/confrontations with police or gangs/groups. He developed it as a black student in a predominantly white school. He also works with police departments w/r/t training and interactions with minorities.
I just wanted to put this out there/credit him for some of the stuff he's done that's amazing at his young age - or any age really. It's sad to me that it's necessary for him to have developed his apps but it's awesome what he's accomplished and he's an amazing young man from every article I've read about him so far. (Connect the Dots for POC students in predominantly white schools was his first. CopStop was his second "hackathon.") Google his name and CopStop and there are too many articles to pick from.
And holy shit I'm exhausted just reading about his accomplishments and activities. Martial arts, kickboxing, horseback riding, working, teaching himself coding, sound tech at his church... I need a nap.

I read about him a few weeks ago and thought this was absolutely genius.
I think itβs especially remarkable that not only has he come up with an app that deals with the situation as it stands with regard to institutionalized racism, but is also working with the local police force to effect change internally.
