West Virginia state Senate candidate Richard Ojeda was brutally beaten during a cookout Sunday — just two days before his primary — and nearly run over with a pickup truck, Ojeda told NBC News.
Jonathan Stuart Porter, 41, was in custody Sunday. State Trooper Zachary Holden told NBC News he was being held on suspicion of malicious assault, malicious attempted assault and felony destruction of property.
Well, since it was already answered, yes, this is *that* guy. But to be beaten up as a candidate is crazy.
(And now I wonder what the political beliefs are of the guy that beat him. Is he a Trump supporter ticked that Ojeda is running as a Democrat? Or a Democrat that read the article about Ojeda being a Trump supporter? Either way it’s appalling and not what we’re supposed to be about. But this is who we are today, I guess.)

And OMG I am in the middle of the History Chicks podcast on Jacquie Kennedy. JFK is not, even a little, someone I would want to emulate. What a garbage person he was. I am sure this guy is slightly worse, but damn.

Maybe I'm a jerk, but with him knowing the perpetrator, I'm not convinced this was politically motivated. I think it's in Ojeda's campaign's interest to spin it that way, but his statement sounds more like campaigning/spin to me than like it was truly a political incident.

I could be wrong.
Pssst: you’re not a total jerk. And you’re not the only cynic. My qualm was the extreme that this was taken and would someone *really* be willing to go to jail for doing this? But the thought did cross my mind when I first clicked on the article.

Same. He's known his attacker for years. I'm betting there's bad blood between them.

He's a known hot head and his supporters eat this stuff up. Yesterday, during the livestream of the teacher vote, he was working the hell out of a stress ball and there were so many comments on the stream about, "look at Ojeda, he's trying hard not to punch someone out," "look at Ojeda, he's going to hit someone with that stress ball."
You guys know this article is from May 16 before the Dem primary for his state senate seat? I read it and was like, he got beat up again?! I don’t condone violence, but I doubt this attack was politically motivated. And Ojeda is a piece of shit.

I admit, I didn't read the article, I know fail, but figured with him, it wasn't that far out of the realm of possibility it could have happened again.

I really hope someone else wins the dem primary. I do not want to vote for this guy.
