My work calendar has today as "National Proofreading Day"... not International Women's Day. Seems about right for my line of work (consulting engineers and scientists based out of the Rocky Mountains).

I am bringing our pup home to the US next week before she gets too old to travel. She's going to stay with family until H and I move back this summer. But OMG, so much stress and paperwork right now. International air travel with a pet is such a enormous pain in the ass, and I'm glad that this is the last time we'll be doing it.
I've been counting down until 5 pm, because that is the magical arbitrary time in my head when it becomes acceptable to pour myself a glass of wine.

I completed a wellness challenge through the YMCA and won a $25 amex gift card in the random drawing, which was a nice treat.
I discovered this morning that my London Fog latte from Starbucks normally has 5 pumps of syrup in it. Whoops. I got 2 this morning, but it wasn't sweet enough.

The local grocery store has Women's Day bouquets. It made me (possibly irrationally?) angry. It's not that kind of holiday! And who the fuck grows those flowers? Women, who get exposed to nasty chemicals and don't make enough money. This American AF, in the worst way.
I made a vet appointment for both dogs today which was probably a mistake even though it’s convenient. Mellie has already fear tinkled (her signature move) twice.
Also... lately H has been swamped at work. He's apologized. He's acknowledged that he feels like he's ignoring/neglecting me and things at home, which is true. And, generally, I'm ok with it because it comes and goes for both of us. There are going to be weeks where I'm swamped and it falls on him. That's how it has always worked. And he's tried to make adjustments. But his inability to focus on home stuff or at the least multitask has now led to us not being able to book the whale watching tour that our friend and his fiance are going on. We were waiting until we got his bonus info to see what we'd book on Maui. He got that 2 weeks ago. I've pestered him since then to get his act together and log on. Yesterday I got so fed up with him not being able to fucking look at the stuff for the trip that I typed out the agenda for him, using small words. That finally got his attention. I went this morning to book the tour and - nada. Nothing available online. I emailed the company to see if they do have any availability, but I'm certain the answer will be no. And I'm just.... pissed. I mean, we can do it another day. But that's not the point.
ETA: I'm also equally pissed at myself for not just booking the damned tour when I saw it.

Agree, but I guess at least I give McDonalds a pass since they are trying to celebrate the women from their counter to the C-Suite at 100 franchises. And they are talking about the number of women managers they have and have had programs for years to increase that number. So I feel like it's less pandering.
That same article also notes that, "Whisky brand Johnnie Walker released a product with a limited edition "Jane Walker" label for the month of March. For every Jane Walker bottle sold, Johnnie Walker will donate $1 to organizations that support women's causes, up to $250,000." What?! and Jane Walker sounds stupid as a name too... it could have been named after someone famous who worked in the liquor industry. It took me minutes to find real women who contributed and created whiskey/bourbon: www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/05/women-making-whiskey-an-800-year-history/393260/
Plus, I sort of feel like this Entrepreneur article author notes, "Diageo [parent company of Jonnie Walker] could have positioned Jane Walker not as a scotch for women but as a scotch for everyone who supports women. Rather than directly saying the purpose of Jane Walker is to bring more women to the brand, Diageo should have allowed that to happen naturally based on its actions. Ultimately, the icon and Jane Walker brand name simply would act as tangible brand identity elements representing the purpose, promise and actions. In fact, that’s what brand identity elements like icons and names are for, so this recommendation isn’t innovative or surprising. It’s marketing at its most basic, strategic level." www.entrepreneur.com/article/309990
Companies do have power to create change in our world, and good marketing campaigns show how a company is celebrating community achievement or changes, but also has lived and promotes them themselves.
I organize a local knit-night, and tonight is our first gathering of the month. A buddy who sometimes comes and brings her teenage daughter has asked if the daughter could attend without her (my buddy has a conflict this evening), because the daughter enjoys the gathering. And I'd pick up and drop off said teen.
A few weeks ago, a different buddy asked if I could give her teenage daughter a ride home from a late high school musical practice, because the buddy had to work late. (does it _ever_ feel weird to wait at a high school after dark to pick up someone when you don't even have kids of your own!)
Apparently I've become sufficiently old and wisened that friends are entrusting their teenagers to my care. Huh. That, or I'm just deemed sufficiently trustworthy now? Or, more likely, the teens are mostly self-sufficient, and really could do all of these things independently, except our city has really poor public transit options...

Have you seen Scandinavia and the World's post for today?

Last night I asked H who his favorite astromech droid was because I was still all up in my feels. It was then followed by a long, rather heated discussion as to whether or not BB8 "counts" as an astromech. Of course, he is and I am right, but even after citing wookiepeida, he is skeptical.
I spent the remainder of the evening trying on lipsticks while pretending to be Palpatine. If the sith lord had a cat that constantly slept on his cloak.

You get you're one of my favorite people here, right?

It is like you are speaking a foreign language. I don't know what any of this means

my bf told me McD's was doing this and thought it was an incredibly token gimmicky thing to do. Bonus points to him for giving me the heads up that Intl women's day was today 😳

Yesterday was my birthday. I celebrated by buying myself a facial hair remover device, thanks to my nearsighted self leaning really close to my bathroom mirror without my contacts in.
I also recently made a comment to our friend and his wife about needing to stretch when you've been sitting in a position for a long time or when getting out of bed in the morning. She had no idea what I was talking about because she's still in her mid-twenties and couldn't relate. Total blank stare while her husband laughs at us old folks (himself included).
