Will there ever come a time when BB does not cry herself to sleep at night? We were good for a while, but every now and then, maybe 40% of the week, is her crying even after an extended goodnight routine*. I assume it is just because she does not want to go to sleep, so we just let her CIO. She usually stops crying within 5 minutes, but on a bad day, it can go longer.
* The goodnight routine is potty/new diaper, books, milk, brush teeth, hugs from me, MH takes her into her room and goes through some long routine that includes saying goodnight to everything and every one/hugs/etc.
Also dumb and clothes related. DD (2) demanded we buy her a pair of shiny pink mary jane shoes. When I was a kid, we would wear fold over ruffle socks with those. Is that still a thing? What socks should I buy? Although it probably won’t matter. She’s wearing them to daycare today with a pair of red and pink striped socks she also picked out.
Any recommendations for a product to help define curl in wavy hair?
My hair has gotten much wavier since having kids. I typically blow dry it straight, but I'd love to be able to air dry and have it look more wavy than frizzy.
My question - what hair products do you recommend for a toddler girl with curly hair? I have straight hair and have no idea how to manage my daughter's hair. I think I need some sort of leave in conditioner.

vtdiamond my daughter has that hair and it is an ongoing learning curve for me. Right now we use spray on detangler and a wide toothed comb. We do that after we wash her hair and also to take care of morning bedhead. The bedhead is getting harder to tame the longer it gets though. I pretty much need to re-wet and comb it to make the curls activate nicely.

We do the same. that's the only thing that really helps. I don't really want to put product in her hair, so it's just conditioner when her hair is washed and then the detangler to get it to play nicely again. I also put her hair in either one or two pony tails to keep it out of her face and hopefully tangle less during the day.

DD, who has always been such a good sleeper, has started massive bedtime shenanigans. Anything to stall bedtime. I just let her cry until she falls asleep. Developmental since they are doing the same thing at the same age?

I told my husband the other day that I don't think my 25 month old knows how to go to sleep without crying. We do bath, milk sippy, brush teeth, go into her room for books (both of us) and water bottle. Then we alternate leaving and on my husband's nights he usually fakes sleep and on my nights she usually suckers me into more books or songs or pointing out body parts, or speaking gibberish.
Last week we switched her to a toddler bed so we've been getting her closer to sleep before putting her in bed, which does result in less crying (and climbing out of bed) but sometimes she still does it. All that is to say I think it's fine?

There was a blog post that floated through here a few years ago that basically said some kids need to release steam to sleep and they do it by crying. So she could just need to do it to sleep. DD1 did it until she was 2.5ish and doesn’t anymore.
mskitkat, lacey, jr009j, thanks! I guess it is normal, and on the days when she is very tired, she usually goes down without a fuss. But then there are days when its "mommaaaaaaaaaaaaa" "daaaaaaaddaaaaaaaaaaaa" and crying.
The releasing steam makes sense - yesterday and this AM she actually had stomp feet and flail her arms tantrums when she got frustrated which is a first for her. So we are also working on using our words to share how she feels or what she wants, because otherwise I can't help her. I used the tips that I got a few weeks ago on here on getting down to her level and talking calmly to her rather than continue to talk to her from above her head, which I think helped a lot.
Did you get foam bumpers or traditional bedrails when transitioning your toddler our of the crib? Just put a mattress on the floor and hope they catch on quickly?
We have the toddler rail on the crib right now but want to use the crib for #2 in a couple months. She likes cozying up to the rail, so I'm not sure we can get away with nothing right now. Thanks!

Unless it's for dress-up, my kids just wears any of the regular socks she already has. But for dressing up, she wears those fold-over ruffle socks.

Are you buying a bed? I never took the front rail off crib. We went from crib to twin beds and put them against a wall with a rail on the other side. They transitioned great.

We just put a mattress on the floor. He slept on the floor for a few weeks then eventually decided to sleep on the mattress. It was next to the wall so I guess he could have cozied up to the wall if he wanted.

We took the side off of the crib and use a bedrail - highly recommend this one, which secures down into the mattress: Safety 1st bedrail link
ETA: the rail works for any type of mattress - we use it on DD's twin bed, our extra tall king, and multiple mattresses on vacations with no issue.
The bedrail talk triggered a question for me. I'm taking DD1 on a trip in May, when she'll be almost 4. She's sleeping in a toddler bed with no rail, on the lowest setting, and she sometimes still falls out of bed.
On the trip, she'll be sleeping by herself in a double, which is a lot higher off the ground. I was thinking of putting rolled up towels or a pillow under the fitted sheet on each side of the bed to make little bumpers, but any other recommendations? I can also share a bed with her, too.
Is there anyway to get stains out of kid underwear? I have sprayed them with oxyclean spray and let it soak, I have soaked in powdered oxyclean, and I have sunned them. So they're a lost cause, right? I mean, a little bit of stain I'm okay with but sometimes they get pretty bad and I can't bear to see them in the laundry.
Adult shopping question: I want to buy a super cozy chair for my reading room (currently has a bookcase and a rug aaaaand that’s it). Anyone have good ideas? The only chairs I have loved were $500/ea and white. Not with a toddler, no.
In hotels, I’ve always pushed one bed up against the wall and used pillows to create a barrier so DS wouldn’t fall/roll. It’s worked for us so far (he’s 7) - we travel quite extensively and he’s never fallen out of bed (knock on wood).

I have this chair in my nursery. You can not see the black base in person - not sure why it is so dominant in the display pictures. I have it in beige, which is very light.
Anyway, the chair is a glider but it also reclines, which I love. The material is like a brushed twill - sturdy but soft. The back is super stuffed, and makes the chair very comfortable. I love sitting in it, and wish I bought this for my bedroom instead of the stiff formal chair and ottoman that's in there now.
It's available on several sites. I bought mine from Hayneedle as I was able to google an extra coupon code. I really love this chair.

We have a queen bed in the guest room/office that needs to move out to make room for the nursery stuff. I'm hoping to at least start with that since it's comfortable and we don't have anywhere else to put it. I'm not opposed to buying a twin if we find out that would work better but I think her room can hold the bigger one.

We use the regular bed rail on the twin bed but I've heard a lot of people having success too with the mattress on the floor so they don't fall far if they roll out of bed.
What kind of toothpaste do you all use for your toddlers? DS is 17 months old and has all his teeth but his 2 year molars. I've been using the Nuby brand training toothpaste and am about to run out so before I buy more I wanted to see what everyone else uses.
We just put a super small smear of the Crest we use on her toothbrush. I think I've read that the flouride won't hurt them if you use a tiny amount.

We've rolled up blankets or put pillows along the edges. Or because we were in a king bed, E slept in bed between H and I so he just ended up squished up against me, lol. I've found too though that since the bed is bigger he hasn't gotten as close to the edges when he's slept alone in a hotel bed.

We used Tom's (toddler kind) for a while, then switched to I think it's the Crest kids one, or maybe Colgate.. it's the Cars one, lol. We recently taught him to spit it out but he probably still swallows some. I just make sure not to put a ton on the brush!
