He defended his dissertation yesterday and is officially Dr Penguinboy, PhD! I'm so proud of him and I know I mostly lurk on this board, but I wanted to share because I so damn proud lol!
Does he have edits or publications to finish or is he for real all finished?
He has a few publications to get out as he can (will need them before applying for tenure track positions next year), but his adviser is in no rush as the work is done, he just needs to write them up. Mostly it will be adapting chapters of his thesis for publication. He researched to the last second instead of publishing as he went along, which is standard of his adviser's group.

Thanks everyone!
That is great! I did the publish as I went and it was nuts.
Good luck with the tenure track positions and the publications! Please, please, please make sure he walks in his full, goofy, Harry Potter-esque Ph.D. regala. I didn't want to at first but it was so much fun.

I've been trying to convince him to walk in May and actually used the Harry Potter look as an excuse lol! His robes are so pretty too (Columbia). A good friend of both of ours (who I call his work wife lol) just defended a few weeks ago, so if she's walking I can probably convince him. We'll see because her postdoc is in France, but I believe she's planning a trip home in May...
