Ds1 was invited to a birthday party for someone in his class and I have no idea what to get the little girl. Her mom hasn’t responded to my email asking what she is interested in but their teacher said she likes “girly stuff like bows and makeup”.

Gift card.
Signed the woman who got what was supposed to have been a really awesome gift (I asked the mom) but turns out she already had it (I guess mom forgot) and cried bc of it, lol.
My answer is always gift cards. Always. My kids love shopping, wes is 5 and loves gift cards.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
Target has Melissa & Doug craft kits with fairy wands or jewelry boxes. They are nice and easy for this age. Depending on price/budget you could also throw in a paperback Pinkalicious or Fancy Nancy book.
I agree with the art and jewelry kits. They have them at Michaels and Target. At age 5, gift cards always fell flat for my son. He always wanted the instant gratification of a gift. Now that he’s older? All he wants is gift cards.
When my kids were younger than 7, gift cards fell flat. I would go with some kind of art/craft kit. My niece (9 fwiw) is a total girly-girl but LOVES making slime, making her own jewelry, nail polish kits, etc. She also loves those super complicated coloring books that are more geared toward adults.

B is almost 5 and I will also recommend arts and crafts stuff. MIL recently gave her a DIY Marie Gras type mask kit and she loved it. It was Melissa and Doug I think.
DD is 5. Gift cards are definitely a hit. She likes movies, books, games, art stuff. She asked for kinetic sand recently. Also, anything that makes her feel grown up, like nail polish. Are the girl's ears pierced?
Arts and crafts were pretty popular at that age but speaking from experience the birthday girl will probably get 9 million craft kits. I'd probably do something summer related--a fun beach towel, sunglasses and a girly case, googles, etc.

A gift card to Target - my son won one at daycare the other day and is thrilled to take it to the store and choose something with it. Plus you know it won't be a duplicate.
for the most part, we buy lego sets all the time now for gifts. It's simple and easy to regift if necessary because while some kids won't be interested, I'd imagine most kids like lego.
My 5 year old is in to My Little Pony, Shopkins and Barbies. She would also be fine with a gift card but has a hard time staying in the price range with that stuff yet and I either have to show her specific items or kick in some extra money.
Craft kits, puzzles, water/beach toys and a towel for summer, barbies if you think she's into them (I got a lot of them around 5 and 6. My daughter was so-so on them when it is just her but they come out a lot at playdates). Any sort of building toy -- things like lego friends are popular if you specifically want it to be girl-themed. I've had luck with books too. Elephant and Piggy books are big hit at this age.
I didn't know an LOL doll was a thing until I scrolled down and someone else said it, so I read your post as you LOLing at suggesting a doll. I was confused and amused simultaneously.
