Well, you may have to take it consistently for a couple of weeks for it to start working if it's an anti-depressant. Weird that the doc didn't tell you what it was when he prescribed it.
I agree with MCC. Maybe it's time to try a sleep clinic?
I would find a new doc. Anyone who is going to give you a Rx for an anti depressant without talking to you about what it is and side effects isn't worth seeing.
Maybe go to a sleep center?
Yea, I was thinking that too about that doctor. Actually I think he's just a NP. I only saw him once before.
Sleep center is a great idea! I hadn't thought of that!!

I work in the psych field and Trazodone is VERY commonly used for sleep disturbances.
It isn't unusual for meds to be used dual purpose. For example: abilify is an anti-psychotic but it was also found to be very useful as an "add on" medication to alleviate depression.
While I think it is best practice for docs/NPs/PAs to have discussions with you about what they are prescribing and why, I don't think it is necessarily cause to fire that person unless you specifically had expressed concerns about anti-depressants in the past.

There's a doctor on my insurance whose specialty is "Sleep Medicine" Should I just make an appointment with him? I've never heard of sleep medicine before and he doesn't have a website.
Ask your primary to refer you to have a sleep study done. They'll set up a night for you to go in and have them monitor you and see if there's more going on. To be honest, I've only seen them done during the week though, so that might be challenging with your DS.
ETA: I've known a few people who did the sleep study at home because they were too anxious to do it in the lab but the results weren't as accurate because there's less monitoring.

The NP is saw yesterday said that getting 6 hours of sleep isn't bad. IDK... is the sleep dr going to say that 6 hrs is enough? I'm going to call and make an appt. For me 6 hours isn't enough. I feel like I can't even keep my eyelids open.

I just talked to "A" psychiatrist (not my psychiatrist, I don't have one) and he said that for it to be an anti-depressant I would need to take like 400 mg. He suggested I up the dosage from 50 to 75 and see if that helps so I am going to do that tonight.
